Medford Multicare Center seeks an Assistant Director of Nursing/ Nurse Educator

The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for all nursing personnel on all three shifts for the units assigned. This responsibility includes clinical care decisions for the residents of the facility, communication with the nursing staff, medical staff, residents, family members, and other interdisciplinary team members as necessary.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Assists the DNS to facilitate quality care to the residents; functions as the acting DNS in the absence of the DNS.
  • Discusses clinical issues with the nursing staff and interdisciplinary team on all shifts and coordinates appropriate comprehensive care plan initiatives.
  • Communicates nursing report at the beginning and end of the shift; checks the 24-hour report for any concerns and follow-up issues that need to be addressed on each unit.
  • Assesses residents and medical records to ensure follow through on all issues.
  • Investigates immediately any allegations of abuse, mistreatment or neglect and implements measures to ensure the safety of all residents. Reports allegation/immediate interventions taken to the DNS/Designee and submits written investigation to the DNS.

All investigations are to include: complaint, staff and resident statements, actions taken immediately, and summary of initial determination.

  • Educates nursing staff re: best practice quality care measures and assists the Director of Staff Development to meet the educational needs of the nursing staff.
  • Ensures safe staffing on all units; communicates any staffing concerns to the Staffing Coordinator and assists the coordinator whenever necessary.
  • Coordinates New Admission Assessments with the Nurse Manager/unit nurse and implements interim CCP. Ensures that medications are obtained from the pharmacy timely, immunizations are assigned via the 24-hour report, dietary is notified of diet order, and resident needs are met. Discusses Advance Directives with the resident/designated representative if available.
  • Assesses any resident in distress, calls the MD, implements interventions and documents same on the medical record. Calls the designated representative immediately if the resident has a change in clinical status and/or is transferred to the hospital.,
  • Completes all audits weekly as assigned by the DNS and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Directors of Nursing to plan and implement educational programs on all shifts to meet the goals and objectives of the Nursing Department.
  • Contributes to an annual/monthly calendar of educational activities per state regulations for staff including educational needs identified by nursing leadership and all relevant quality improvement activities.
  • Identifies essential competencies for licensed and non-licensed staff within the Department of Nursing and assures appropriate educational opportunities exist to promote the growth and the development of staff.
  • Leverages MMC education management system and collaborates with the Director of Nursing to maintain individual educational records of all nursing and non-nursing staff.
