Meadville Medical Center is Hiring a Gi technician Near Meadville, PA

SUMMARY

Perform high-level disinfection of all endoscopy equipment. Assist the endoscopy team with the daily routines and functions of the GI Lab.

JOB DUTIES

Reports patient, family, co-worker or physician concerns to the Clinical Team Leader or Manager.

Report equipment supply, or special needs to the Clinical Team Leader of Manager.

Maintain communication with nurses, physicians and GI Techs regarding schedule and planned cases and any special needs.

Assists with patient care (positioning, monitor placement, transport) under the supervision of the nursing staff or physician.

Maintains current credentialing in the cleaning, high-level disinfection, and preparation of endoscopes / accessories.

Re-usable supplies are cleaned for pick-up by CPD staff.

Assists with labeling, preparing and sending specimens to the lab.

Correctly enters specimen data into the computer.

Knowledgeable about infection control issues related to GI Lab specific procedures.

Knowledgeable about the safe handling of cautery equipment.

Able to prepare and ship endoscopes for repair.

Performs errands as requested.

Demonstrates the cost-conscious use of supplies and equipment.

Assists with the transport of patients to and from the GI Lab procedure rooms.

Does not trivialize feelings (teens).

Allows parents / caregiver to be present as permitted (teens).

Is sensitive to patient's perception of body image (teens).

Is perceptive to the impact of changing life roles (all ages).

SPECIFIC JOB DEMANDS

Strength : Light Work - Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 20 Lbs. occasionally, frequently up to 10 Lbs., or negligible amount constantly.

Can include walking and or standing frequently even though weight is negligible. Can include pushing and or pulling of arm and or leg controls.

Reaching : Frequently - Extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

Handling : Frequently - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift automobile gears.

Fingering : Frequently - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Talking : Frequently - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing : Frequently - Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.

Near Acuity : Frequently - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

Accommodation : Frequently - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.

Color Vision : Frequently - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Must be high school graduate or equivalent.

Communication skills necessary to effectively :

Provide instruction to the patient and / or significant other.

Provide explanations to the patient and / or significant other.

Be able to receive instructions.

Communicate clearly with other members of the health team.

Ability to interact with patients, families and others often during stressful situations.

Ability to concentrate and prioritize.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily in an office setting. May be required to be in various hospital departments. Occasional exposure to angry / hostile customers.

May need to work under stressful situations with frequent interruptions.
