Summer STEM Academy Coach (College)/Limited Defined Employee (LDE) (5 Positions)

Location: Northwood Middle School

$1425 stipend

3 Weeks/July 8, 2023 – July 25, 2023

7:45 am – 2:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is only available to current college STEM majors. Under the direction of the Director of CTE and the STEM Coordinator, this position is responsible for developing and implementing the STEM Summer Academy program. This position is also responsible for collaborating with teachers in promoting interdisciplinary STEM activities into the core summer curriculum.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work cooperatively and positively with staff.
  • Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.
  • Use technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Work directly with STEM Coordinator and staff in the development, implementation, and delivery of Summer STEM initiatives and curriculum.
  • Organize, develop, and coordinate special STEM events/activities.
  • Share STEM events and activities through social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current college STEM major.
  • Experience with K12 students in district-approved activities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of productive experience with problem-based learning.
  • Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position.
  • Proven ability to apply science and/or math content knowledge, formative assessment, and technology integration at a high level.
  • Understanding of student learning theory, brain-based learning, and differentiated instruction.
  • Understanding of NGSS and CCSS.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student learning.
  • Desire to continue learning “what works” in classroom instruction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability to handle complaints with patience and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans.
  • Ability to project a positive and concern image to the public.
  • Ability to handle complaints with patience and efficiency.
  • Considerable knowledge of Windows, Macintosh and Chrome platform proficiency.
  • Knowledge of school operations, preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity.

The Salary Range for College Student Temporary Summer STEM Coaches is a Min $1,425.00 – Max $1,425.00 stipend. College Student Temporary Summer STEM coaches will accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked.
