MDU Resources Group, Inc., the largest publicly traded company headquartered in North Dakota, with operations, customers, and more than 10,000 employees across the country is seeking a Building Maintenance Assistant who is a self-starter, professional, and able to work with minimal supervision to perform daily operations, assist with repairs, and complete maintenance functions (heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, etc.) for the various building facilities, systems, and grounds for MDU Resources Group Inc. All MDU Resources employees are responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in their day-to-day work routines for themselves and others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Building Maintenance Assistant I ($23.13 - $28.92/hour)

• High school equivalency; and
• Basic knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical and plumbing, all phases of boiler operations; experience with commercial a/c units normally acquired through two years’ experience working on HVAC equipment or completion of a HVAC technical training course; and possession of a refrigerant handling certification for commercial equipment.

Building Maintenance Assistant II ($25.91 - $32.38 /hour)

• High school equivalency; and
• A working knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical and plumbing, all phases of boiler operations; experience with commercial a/c units; basic knowledge of building automation systems normally acquired through four years’ experience working on HVAC equipment or completion of a HVAC technical training course; and possession of a refrigerant handling certification for commercial equipment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
• This position is located on site in Bismarck, ND
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
• Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
• Required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Due to the need for unescorted access to security sensitive business locations and/or systems, must submit to periodic background checks.
• Must be available to respond to emergency calls after-hours and on weekends on a rotational weekly basis.
• Successful applicants will not be allowed to bid outside the department for a minimum of 18 months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Associates degree in applied science with emphasis on heating and air conditioning (HVAC).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the daily operation, maintenance and functions (heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, etc.) with emphasis on HVAC on repairs for the various building facilities, systems and grounds.
• Works with the Building & Grounds Supervisor to request estimates, schedule and coordinate outside contractors required for maintenance and repairs for the facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, all types of trade contractors (general, electrical, mechanical, etc.), custodial and outside services.
• Monitors all heating and cooling equipment on a daily basis. Provides information to Building & Grounds Supervisor when maintenance, repair or replacement is required for all systems and equipment.
• Maintains compliance with all building and fire codes and ensures compliance with all required inspections.
• Records and maintains equipment information in building maintenance system including equipment repairs, parts inventory management, preventive maintenance schedules and equipment retirements/replacements.
• Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
