Job Title: Cost Estimator

Job Summary:

MDE North America is seeking a skilled Cost Estimator to prepare detailed cost analyses for laser cut parts, forming, and fabrication. This role is essential for assisting sales and management in making informed pricing decisions, evaluating capacity, and understanding capital constraints should the business be awarded contracts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with sales, engineering, and design teams to assess product feasibility and quoting strategies.

- Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, JobBoss, Inventor, and SolidWorks to develop accurate cost estimates.

- Work closely with management to establish process flows, manning, and cycle times necessary for preparing sales quotations.

- Calculate material weights and usage with precision, including metric conversions.

- Develop comprehensive estimates for packaging and shipping costs.

- Prepare and analyze capital cost requirements and amortization schedules.

- Maintain and update cost formulations, ensuring data integrity across systems.

- Assist plant operations with data entry from quotes, setting up Bills of Materials (BOMs), and routers.

- Conduct cost evaluations and revisions as needed to maintain accuracy.

- Support ISO initiatives and adhere to quality standards.

- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

- Minimum 5 years of experience in estimating, specifically in steel plate fabrication.

- Demonstrated expertise in steel fabrication.

- Proven leadership and outstanding organizational and analytical skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities with a high level of detail.

- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical documentation.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proficient in English both written and spoken.

Education and/or Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related field from a four-year college or university.

- At least five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling seven years.

Travel Requirements:

- Ability to travel out of state as needed.

Skills:

- Strong mathematical skills for complex calculations.

- Excellent reasoning ability to apply logical instructions in various formats.

- Effective at problem-solving and applying common sense to practical challenges.

Physical Demands:

- Regular need to talk, hear, and see.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.

- Occasionally need to use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms.

- Ability to independently lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver up to 100 pounds.

- Must have specific vision abilities including close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
