Summary
The primary purpose of the Communications Program Manager, Integrated Media position is to support
MD Anderson's social media strategy and digital presence through content development focused on highlighting our experts, as well as education and training for MD Anderson faculty and staff.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing digital content ( e.g. writing and video). Experience managing social media for a brand or organization and/or experience training people to use social media is also preferred.
Key Functions
Social Media Program/Project Management:
  • Manages social media programs and content projects highlighting MD Anderson experts, including physicians, researchers, staff, students and trainees, and targeting prospective physicians, researchers and employees, as well as referring providers and other health care professionals, in alignment with organizational and Strategic Communications priorities and content strategies.
  • Develops content with MD Anderson faculty and experts and posts to organizational social media accounts, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Doximity, Instagram, YouTube, and other new and emerging social media platforms.
  • Manages MD Anderson's social media/digital presence at relevant oncology conferences (including some travel).
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure strategic alignment and brand messaging integration.
  • Routinely develops content for, monitors and responds to customers via organizational social media platforms.
  • Addresses online customer service reviews/complaints through response and collaboration with Patient Advocacy, Risk Management, Legal Services, Human Resources and associated departments.
Writing/Editing:
  • Writes and reviews content for physicians, researchers, students, trainees, prospective employees and other health care professionals interacting with MD Anderson's social and digital properties through presentations, training materials, social media posts (including social videos and Stories), blog posts, infographics, podcast episodes, animation scripts, and other materials.
  • Translates clinical/medical/science information into relevant, compelling and readable content for a variety of audiences.
  • Clear, consistent writing and editing in all work products.
  • Command of Associated Press and MD Anderson style.
  • Proactively tracks down content ideas. Optimizes content for search engines.
Strategic Counsel/Education:
  • Counsels and educations colleagues and internal customers regarding social media and communications best practices.
  • Acts as a consultant to MD Anderson experts and faculty members participating in social media.
  • Develops training curricula and educates faculty and staff on use of social media platforms and tools, as well as best practices.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with client group(s) to better understand roles and processes.
  • Routinely attends face-to-face meetings with client leadership, attends key customer meetings and is available for consultation, as needed.
Measurement:
  • Consistently tracks and analyzes success of program, projects and initiatives, provides regular status reports and identifies as well as solves potential problems and makes data-based decisions and recommendations to guide social media planning and content development.
People Management:
  • May direct work of senior communications specialists, interns/externs, external service providers and contracted personnel.
Other duties as assigned
Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
Experience
Required: Six years of experience public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. With preferred degree, four years of required experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
