Assistant Project Manager

We are looking to add: An experienced Assistant Project Manager with a minimum of 5 years of experience to be assist the Project Manager and Project Executive by providing support in aspects of project management. Project sizes typically range from $500k - $15M.

Position Description:
MCW Group's Assistant Project Manager must demonstrate the ability to manage the cradle-to-grave aspects of the entire life cycle of a small commercial construction project or to support the project management process for larger projects.
The Assistant Project Manager position includes an understanding of process management and the ability and agility to perform work that is contracted through a variety of delivery methods that include: indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ), Lump-Sum Contracting, Design/Build and Design Bid Build contracts.
The Assistant Project Manager accomplishes work primarily by means of subcontractors; however, the Assistant Project Manager has the capability of managing self-performed construction activities that benefit the project.
MCW Group’s Assistant Project Managers are sometimes asked to travel around the National Capitol Region to support company’s pursuit of new federal contracts. In some rare instances, the Assistant Project Manager may be asked to travel outside of the region for the successful performance of federal contracts in a new or strategic area.
Core Responsibilities:
The Assistant Project Manger’s core function is to support the Project Executive, Project Manager, and Project Management Team in efficient project management from project proposal to closeout.
Pre-Award Construction Activities
o Participate in estimating new projects.
o Identify and vet subcontractors/vendors and collect price proposals.
o Develop and provide scope sheets to all subcontractors.
o Represent the construction team at site visits, pre-construction meetings, industry day events, other opportunity-specific meetings.
o Assist in the initial development of a project schedule.
Construction Activities
o Assist the Project Manager in the purchasing and subcontract award process.
o Complete all pre-construction paperwork, access forms, and contract documents as instructed by the Client and Project Manager
o Manage the material submittal process with support from the Quality Control Manager and Project Manager, including primary responsibility for communication with vendors and subcontractors regarding specification requirements, preliminary reviews, workflow management and tracking, distribution of approved packages and associated tasks.
o Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process with support from the Quality Control Manager and Project Manager, including research into contract documents, preparation of technical requests, workflow management and tracking, review and distribution of responses and associated tasks.
o Manage any construction-specific site-access processes for subcontractors and vendors including proactive engagement with necessary vendors and subcontractors in a timely manner, preparation and maintenance of instructions and process descriptions for communication purposes, workflow management and tracking, distribution of approved packages, scheduling and follow up for each applicant through final compliance, and associated tasks.
o Establish, monitor, communicate and maintain project schedules utilizing contemporary scheduling software.
o Coordinate, conduct and document weekly trade foreman meetings with support from the Project Superintendent.
o Manage or support the change management process, by updating logs, routing source documents to vendors, obtaining pricing, developing estimates and proposals, writing change orders and other related activities.
o Measure and document field conditions related to rock excavation, unforeseen conditions, etc.
o Manage the contract close-out process with support from the QC manager and project manager, including primary responsibility for creating and assembling all O&M data, training documentation, manufacturer warranties, as-builts, attic stock, and other associated tasks.
Assistant Project Manager Minimum Qualifications:
· Must have a high level of proficiency with reading and understanding plans and specifications, spreadsheets, email and other software used in the construction industry. Experience with Procore is preferred.
· Must possess current safety credentials to include OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR or must obtain within the first 30 days of employment.
· Must possess current CQC certification issued by USACE or must obtain within the first 30 days of employment.
· US Citizenship is required.
· Working knowledge of various computer programs (experience with Procore and Microsoft Project is preferred but not required); Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
· Able to work at the company office in Loudoun County, VA or at a job site location in the National Capitol Region.
