MCMAHON ASSOCIATES is Hiring a Project Manager, Community Transportation Planning Near Westfield, MA

Purpose

To execute assigned projects to ensure successful and timely completion with a commitment to improving communities through multimodal transportation, making it easier, safer, more efficient, and attractive to walk, bike, and use transit and emerging mobility options. Projects involve elements such as Complete Streets design, Vision Zero, First/Last mile connections to transit, Transportation Demand Management, transit service planning, parking studies, pedestrian and bicycle facilities for all ages, environmental sustainability, landscape architecture, and community planning.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Supervise work of all project personnel (planners and engineers) to ensure that it meets the highest professional standards.
  • Provide mentorship through counsel, guidance, and knowledge to junior staff. Develop and train staff, assist in performance management, foster positive staff morale and camaraderie, and lead staff meetings.
  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects including budgeting, staffing and delegation, scheduling, and client management.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Play an integral role in working with public sector clients and engaging with the public.

Do the Work

  • Work with clients, staff, agency personnel, and others to perform projects
  • Prepare proposals and lead business development activities.
  • Perform project development for complex projects, including finalizing scope of projects, , preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Prepare and direct preparation of designs, specification, plans, estimates and reports for projects.
  • Manage the financial performance of projects including budgeting, reviewing job cost sheets, preparing monthly billings, and minimizing/avoiding project write-offs, and assuring collection of client account receivables. Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
  • Maintain healthy client relationships and client satisfaction and possess solid operational insight for driving projects and executing deliverables.
  • Prepare proposals and manage projects
  • Understand client objectives and help them reach a successful outcome
  • Engage in business development and client marketing

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in city/urban/regional/community planning, urban design, architectural design, landscape architecture, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in transportation or community planning, to include project management experience.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or other applicable professional certification/license preferred.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of business and financial principles in a consulting business, as well as public sector planning
  • Passion for improving communities through transportation.
  • Demonstrated interest in multimodal transportation planning and engineering
  • Experience working with municipalities, DOT, MPOs/RPOs, County Planning agencies, transit authorities, and transportation funding programs.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory policies of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and/or Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) project review process and related federal and state environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex information in an easily understood format.
  • Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of software applications in GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AutoCAD, and other digital design tools.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and attention to detail.
  • High level 360° problem solving skills.
  • Ability to lead community engagement programs and public meetings
  • Excellent communication, presentation, writing, and graphic skills, including public speaking, written reports, presentation materials and technical writing.
  • Strong work ethic and a desire to grow in the profession, dedication to teamwork, and commitment to clients.
  • Solid understanding of the integration of engineering, planning, street design, and bicycle and pedestrian oriented planning.
  • Proven marketing and business development skills.
  • The ability to collaborate and team well across offices and be able to facilitate agreement.
