Responsible for delivering professional counseling services to probationers who are court-ordered to participate. Conduct assessments and screenings, complete all documentation as required in a timely manner and create counseling curriculum as directed by a Qualified Credentialed Counselor and/or Supervisor.

• Assist Qualified Credentialed Counselor in developing and implementing elements of treatment programming, utilizing a cognitive-behavioral model to include but not limited to issues of substance abuse, individual/family counseling, crisis intervention, and co-occurring disorders.
• Carry a regular counseling caseload for the McLennan County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (Adult Probation) as assigned by Qualified Credentialed Counselor.
• Document offender compliance and attendance according to requirements of the Group Contract agreement for the Substance Abuse Treatment Program.
• Update offender data and information into the department designated case management software system.
• Understand evidence-based programs and possess the ability to implement them.
• Provide screening, assessment, group/individual counseling services to address the criminogenic needs of high risk/high needs offenders and make referrals to community resources as appropriate.
• Work closely and effectively with specialized and regular community supervision officers (CSOs) and serves as a team member of the McLennan County CSCD Substance Abuse Treatment Team.
• Participate in specialized training relative to substance abuse, crisis management, group and individual and family counseling, cultural, ethnic and gender diversity topics.
• Document treatment sessions and contacts with program participants. Deliver completed progress reports, discharge plans and summaries to the assigned CSO and/or other interested parties. 
• Provide assessment services to probationers temporarily incarcerated in the McLennan County Jail and testify in court hearings as needed.
• Adhere to departmental rules and guidelines, i.e. work hours, absences, tardiness, training requirements, credentialing, and compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
• Provide court testimony as needed. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Qualified Credentialed Counselor, Supervisor, Deputy Director and/or Director.
• Must adhere to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Community Justice Assistance Division’s Code of Ethics and the Ethical Standards established by the Texas Department of State Health Services for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors or those specified for respective licensure.

Required:

• Associate’s degree related to Human Services conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Higher Texas Coordinating Board required.
• Must hold a professional counseling license (LCDCI) issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services and maintain current license and other licensure as appropriate.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher 
• (BILINGUAL) Fluent Spanish Speaking with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with clients involved in the criminal justice system and/or mental health populations

Required:

• Must successfully pass a criminal background check from the Department of Public Safety and pre-employment drug test.
• Experience with cognitive/behavioral models of treatment as well as the 12-step model, assessment instruments and clinical documentation. Counseling/teaching experience in a substance abuse treatment setting in addition to experience with offender and/or mental health populations preferred.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include morning and/or afternoons to accommodate probationer schedules.
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Conducts face-to-face contact with offenders and their families. Works indoors and outdoors. Comes in contact with criminal courts, courthouse personnel, law enforcement, and community/state agencies. Works with clients who have been convicted of felony and/or misdemeanor offenses.
 
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS: Driving personal automobile, reading, bending, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, speaking, hearing, lifting case files, significant computer data entry, ability to manage stress in meeting deadlines and change, and other physical efforts as required. Uses telephone, cellular phone, computer, printer, copier and fax machine. This position generally requires a flexible 40-hour work week to complete assigned tasks

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Regular schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position may be required to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility.
