The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding an Energy Plant Boiler Operator to our Moscow, Idaho team. You will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Energy Plant systems.

You will perform duties related to the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure wood and gas fired boilers and systems under supervision of the Energy Plant Operations team.

Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include :

  • Perform light maintenance, troubleshooting, and necessary repairs to maintain a continuous supply of steam and compressed air for any situations that arise.
  • Under guidance, perform switching to back-up systems to ensure constant, continuous steam and air supply to campus.
  • Ensure continuous and adequate fuel supply is maintained for the wood-fired broiler, including moving fuel around at wood storage facility, drying wood samples, and inspecting, weighing, and unloading deliveries.
  • Perform drying of wood samples, inspecting, weighing, and unloading fuel deliveries.
  • Perform scheduled soot blows and operate ash removal systems.
  • Under guidance, record and analyze test results for proper adjustment, treatment, or repairs of hot process water softeners, charcoal filtering, sodium zeolite, boiler water, feedwater, and condensate systems.
  • Monitor, record and assist in the maintenance of chilled water systems as needed.
  • Under guidance, perform preventative maintenance for the longevity and efficiency of the boiler, including mud drum blow downs and adjustments of the continuous blow down.
  • Assist in the operation of the various Energy Plant distribution systems and have general knowledge of pipelines, pumps, valves, and directional flows.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by participating in all related safety trainings, maintain First Aid / CPR certification, use proper PPE, and carry out daily housekeeping functions.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience in boiler or industrial setting preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working with tools or industrial equipment and have a working knowledge of concepts, practices, procedures, and function of mechanized equipment.
  • Be able to work in high stress situations and stay calm in emergencies.
  • Possess a learning attitude and ability to accept feedback with an open mind.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol testing as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT).

The pay range for this position i s $17.88 - $25.05 per hour; however, base pay offered my vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

This is a non-exempt role and will be paid hourly. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.

Base pay information is based on market location.
