McCoy Goldsmith and Jewelers is Hiring a Bench Jeweler Near Dubuque, IA

Duties include, but are not limited to:

BENCH JEWELER: The Jeweler provides client services, jewelry repair services, metal smithing, stone setting, design services, CAD/CAM operations, shop operations & sales services.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: Provide memorable, engaging, and confidential servicing of our customers. Consistently seek new product knowledge so that you are an expert resource for your customer & designer/sales staff.

JEWELRY SALES: Consult with and assist customers with jewelry selections of stock merchandise as well as facilitate custom designs and special orders. Create business through various methods of repair communication/clienteling. Data entry of customer, service and sales records in POS system.

JEWELRY DESIGN: Assist designer(s) with custom design projects through detailing design concepts and liaise between customer and designer/jeweler on all new designs & projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Restore damaged or broken jewelry
  • Select appropriate gems, clean and polish jewelry
  • Repair broken clasps, pins, rings, pendants, chains and other jewelry by soldering or replacing broken parts
  • Reshape and restyle old jewelry, following designs or instructions using hand tools and machines such as jeweler's lathe, grinder, polisher, rolling mill, drills, etc.
  • Perform basic gemstone and diamond setting
  • Cut and shape precious metals into jewelry pieces using cutting and shaping tools
  • Re-size rings made from different metals
  • Work with the designer on creation and workability of custom designs
  • CounterSketch software operator
  • Order and maintain needed jewelry supplies for jewelry workshop
  • Pulse Arc welder operator
  • Laser welder operator
  • Repair intake lead
  • Assist in creation, editing and maintenance of POS records, orders and repairs
  • Repair communication & clientelling thru web and app based CMS
  • Set-up and maintain the repair shop, including cleanliness and organization
  • Maintain current knowledge about various types of gemstones and diamonds
  • Adhere to all safety-related procedures to reduce the risk of accidents

JOB HOURS:

40 hours per week with 8 hours paid and 1 hour unpaid lunch/personal time daily. Currently, Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Time subject to change for peak/holiday season, event schedules, updated shop hours, etc.

Physical Requirements:

  • Be physically able to stand on feet up to 8 hrs per shift
  • Be able to bend easily and lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to use keyboard, telephone, computer, and other business related equipment
  • Hand manipulation to complete basic fine jewelry repairs
  • Ability to distinguish between types of gemstones and gold/ sterling silver/ tungsten/ platinum

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma (HSD) or general education degree (GED) required
  • Graduate Bench Jeweler Certification – New Approach School for Jewelers preferred
  • Experience with jeweler's tools, machinery, and equipment required
  • Bench Jeweler Experience - 3 years
  • CAD CAM experience preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with various chemical solutions used for jewelry making/repair required
  • Availability during store hours (weekend work required) plus time for holiday hours & events hosted in-store after hours

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
