MBL New Logo is Hiring a Research Assistant I (Full-Time/Temporary for Teichberg Lab) Near Woods Hole, MA

The Teichberg lab at the MBL seeks a highly motivated individual to join The Ecosystems Center as a temporary, full-time Research Assistant I to assist with the SEAGEN project. This project aims to develop biotechnology for regeneration of seagrass tissue from protoplasts and callus formation for use in genetic transformation experiments. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing various media for seagrass plant tissue regeneration. Tasks include starting and maintaining seagrass tissue cultures, setting up experiments to test methods of regeneration with different types of seagrass tissue and media, and data collection and analysis. This position is primarily lab work with some fieldwork for sample collection. Position is temporary for 6 months but may be extended beyond this period.

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A.), as well as some coursework and/or working experience in plant sciences in subject areas such as Biology, Botany, Horticultural Sciences, Marine Sciences, or other related topics. Must have strong laboratory skills in preparation of reagents, media, sterilization techniques, and be familiar with general use of laboratory equipment. Must be able to work independently and in a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience with tissue culture techniques.

Physical Requirements:

Working daily in a chemical/biological laboratory. Minimal exposure to biohazardous chemicals. Some field work in aquatic environments necessary for collecting samples including swimming, snorkeling, and/or wading in shallow water. Some work in the Marine Resources Center wet lab may be required
