May Institute is Hiring a Developmental Specialist Near West Springfield, MA

The Developmental Specialist works as part of a team to serve children birth to three years of age in a community-based, family-centered program. The position works directly with the children and their families in the child’s natural environment; this might include, but is not limited to, the child’s home, day care, etc. A bulk of the position is conducted via Telehealth due to the current public health environment.
This is a Full-time position.Responsibilities
  • Direct Services:
  • Provides home visits to address needs and issues related to the family.
  • Participates in assessment appointments.
  • Supports assigned child in fully participating in activities with typical peers in a community group setting
  • Conduct Telehealth sessions as needed.
  • Service Coordination:
  • Coordinates supports identified by family in child’s IFSP.
  • Services as a liaison between family and ancillary providers.
  • Ensures that all paperwork is completed by required timelines.
  • Assists family in the development of their child’s IFSP.
  • Monitors status of all functional outcomes and services that are provided.
  • Reviews and modifies the IFSP as needed and completes necessary paperwork.
  • Reviews six month evaluations in timely fashion and completes necessary paperwork.
  • Documents each interaction with children and/or family on session notes.
  • Maintains records of each assigned child.
  • Assists in transition planning at least six months prior to discharge.
  • Where applicable, sends referral letter to local school system.
  • Monitors child’s transition from early intervention to school system.
  • Completes discharge summaries and required paperwork per required timelines.
  • Attends child’s IEP meeting, where applicable.
  • Curriculum:
  • Provides developmentally appropriate activities for toddlers that encourage inclusionary interaction with typical peers.
  • Coordinates curriculum with other team members for services within the child’s natural environment.
  • Designs curriculum to provide education and guidance to families regarding growth and development.
  • Professionalism:
  • Prepares all services and documents in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate and sensitive to family concerns.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all children and their families.
  • Program Services:
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Complete cleaning duties for bleaching toys and equipment after each use.
  • Participates in workshops that are required by DPH and the May Institute.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree with a major in child development, special education, or early childhood education is required
  • At least 4 approved 3-credit courses that focus on infants and toddlers is required
  • At least 300 hours of practicum or work experience with children under the age of 3 is required
  • Being bilingual is preferred
