Product Sourcing Manager

We are seeking a NEW team member to help start up our new Sourcing Department including Trend Analysis and Design Support, but mainly sourcing both in the US but mainly abroad (Asia).

General description of position:

About the Role:

Ecommerce channels are a fast-growing segment of our company. Maxwood’s current product portfolio is focused in the wooden furniture category (bedroom, dining and occasional furniture), with a strong focus on e-commerce (Dropship).

This role is a new position in our company. The Product Sourcing Manager is a key member of the Maxwood New Product Design and Development Team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, trend and product research, assortment and gap analysis, sourcing strategies, pricing, supplier research and identification and actual execution starting with sampling, QC management of production, and close collaboration our purchasing management department.

*This position will require international travel to either tradeshows or key factory partners.*

An important part of the role is to help find new suppliers for products and accessories we currently can’t manufacture in our Vietnamese partner factory.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Team, and interface regularly with Product Design, Compliance, Brand Management, Finance, as well as our Vietnam New Product Development Team.

Candidates should have at least 5 years’ experience in this field, with an established network of mainly international contacts in the home décor / home goods category. Strong analytics, entrepreneurial drive and excellent communication skills are a must – not only for communication within the team but also with potential suppliers. You need to be flexible and easy-going as you will be interacting with many different people and cultures across the world.

Having an eye for trends and being style savvy with the ability to translate ideas into unique, sellable products for all product lines is a must. Must be able to work withing specific constraints (like packaging size, price points etc.) and have the ability to make smart business recommendations on how to optimize value for the end consumer in the e-commerce channel.

What You Will Do:

Design:

• Analyze product trends and existing market data to determine potential product winners.
• Collaborate with Brand Management/Leadership to finalize innovation pipeline.
• Finalize Design in collaboration with relevant sourcing sites and internal Designers
• Work cross-functionally throughout the design process. Form relationships with Customer Service, Engineering, Brand Management, Sourcing Teams in addition to other key partners.
• Understand practical considerations like weight and pack size and come up with creative solutions to optimize design.
• Help review and correct product and packaging design flaws in new and existing products through continuous improvement.

Sourcing:

• Participate and lead global search for suppliers that best fit products sought for product assortment.
• Analyze price and product proposals to determine the best fit.
• Evaluate costing and adjust designs to hit price targets.
• Establish new supplier relationships and help onboard new suppliers.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Have an entrepreneurial instinct, have an eye for design and the ambition to close the deal.
• Minimum of five years of relevant design experience in consumer products; preferably in the home décor / home goods category.
• Ideally, you have been part of the home furnishings industry and understand the dynamics from an import/distribution or manufacturing process.
• Ideally, you already have relationships with a network of suppliers across the globe that we could tap into.
• You have experience with sourcing and obtaining pricing and negotiation product pricing.
• Competence in developing innovative design options around opportunities and gaps.
• Strong communication skills; verbal, visual, and written.
• Experience planning, managing, and completing design projects with varying levels of complexity.
• Ability to build and foster relationships with key partners across subject areas and throughout the organization.
• Ability to advocate for design and trends at multiple levels of the organization.
