Our Opportunity

The laboratory technician is responsible for preparing and testing both laboratory and field samples and reporting results to senior researchers. The position offers the opportunity to gain knowledge while working with a variety of materials relevant to the construction industry including cements, polymers, adhesives, and chemical admixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Test physical properties of cements, polymers, and adhesive from both field and laboratory preparations, using both ASTM standards and internal test procedures.
  • Prepare samples for testing at a range of scales, from laboratory to full room installations. Activities include mixing or powders and liquids, pouring, cutting, and polishing.
  • Provide field sales support through the strength testing of field cubes and sands.
  • Provide physical testing of sound mat and related activities as needed to support sound mat products and sound system development.
  • Organize and maintain identification of samples originating from many locations. Record sample preparation and test result data using digital tools.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment and tools. Complete and coordinate regular calibration and repair of instruments. Maintain inventory of standard laboratory supplies.
  • Gain practical application experience while assisting in field trials of new and existing products and in on-site technical service. (Travel <10%)

Skills and Experience

  • Technical degree or laboratory experience in a related field.
  • Excellent organizational skills and record keeping; completion of sample testing and reports in a timely fashion.
  • Clear and timely communication of project status and issues; the ability to multitask and handle changes in priority.
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to contribute to team projects; have a collaborative and positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including direct customer support.
  • Required software skills are Microsoft Office, and ability to learn lab instrument software.
  • Work safely around chemicals, high temperatures, power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
