Job Description:

Job Title: Perm: Laboratory Team Leader

Job Location: Lebanon, PA

Perm Placement
ASAP Start
Full time - day shift 40 hrs per week
Pay rates starts as $32.20 experience

Responsibilities:

General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Division Manager, provides laboratory services to meet the needs of patients performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Supervises personnel and coordinates functions and activities in assigned division. Functions at least 50% of time as a technical staff member.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are essential job accountabilities:

1. Directs, supervises, and coordinates technical functions and activities in assigned area(s).

2. Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions.

3. Trains other employees in day-to-day procedures.

4. Assists in developing budgets.

5. Assists in developing department goals and objectives.

6. Performs surveys and does comparative analyses of work units; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate.

7. Consults with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory and/or related services.

8. Participates in Quality Assessment Program on a regular and continuing basis.

9. Participates in department specific and/or system-wide projects of varying scope and duration.

10. Performs the duties of a medical technologist, including tests and procedures.

The following are common expectations:

Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.

12. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

13. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

14. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

The following are nonessential job accountabilities for ADA purposes:

15. Requisitions laboratory supplies and maintains supply inventories.

16. Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

17. Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as requested.

Performs other related duties as identified.

Qualifications:

Note: Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.

Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree

As part of CAP requirements, copy of college diploma and transcript required upon hire.

Minimum Experience 5 - 8 years

Min Field Of Expertise Medical technology or a related science

Req Cert/Registration Experienced certified generalist or specialist (e.g., MT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP), SC (ASCP), etc.)

Physical Demands Mostly sedentary work

Occasional prolonged standing/walking

Occasionally lifts supplies/equipment

Manual dexterity and mobility

Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching

Working Conditions Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens

Exposed to hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues

Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards

Exposed to odorous chemicals/specimens

May be exposed to toxic chemicals

Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases

Subject to cuts from microtome knives

Handles emergency or crisis situations

Travel required

May make home visits

Exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases

Management Experience Demonstrated leadership potential preferred

Skills: Other Thorough understanding of test theory, instrumentation, sources of test error and other factors
