The Humane Enforcement Officer operates as part of the enforcement team by answering routine enforcement business and emergency type telephone calls, will handle intake of animals, misc. dispatching duties, data entry as it pertains to enforcement, assisting with investigations, enforcement of State and County laws pertaining to animal care and control, providing support to the enforcement branch of the Maui Humane Society. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Humane Enforcement (DHE) and Enforcement Supervisor.

• Reports for duty at designated hours and familiarizes with daily emails, SOPs, and enforcement bulletins.
• Investigates animal nuisance complaints, assists in case follow-up, and conducts interviews.
• Issues citations for violations of animal control laws and logs cases into Pet Point.
• Prepares investigative reports, court documentation, and provides courtroom testimony.
• Educates animal owners on proper care and treatment, submits required reports and citations promptly.
• Conducts preventative patrols to reduce violations and operates police radio professionally.
• Removes deceased, injured, or stray animals from public/private property and provides emergency response.
• Sells Maui County dog licenses in the field and processes animals brought into the shelter.
• Maintains cleanliness and inventory of HEO vehicles and office supplies.
• Notifies of incidents receiving media attention and participates in disaster preparedness activities.
• Promotes positive public image, attends meetings, and addresses safety hazards.
• Assists in education on animal-related laws and ordinances.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors, including after-hours shelter assistance and dispatch duties.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $24.19 per hour
