Maui Family Support Services, Inc. is Hiring an Infant Toddler Teacher Near Wailuku, HI

Summary:

Responsible to assist in planning and implementing an Infant/ Toddler educational program in accordance with the Early Head Start Performance Standards Center’s educational goals, objectives, and beliefs. Directly responsible to the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Teacher is responsible for the following:

Classroom Duties

  • Seeing that the assigned classroom is well maintained, shelves and floor free of dust, dirt, paper, and food particles.
  • Consistently reporting to work on time, and informing the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor of absences well in advance.
  • Keeping a well-organized area available with age appropriate materials and equipment readily accessible to the Infants/Toddlers.
  • Seeing that children and adults properly use all materials and equipment.
  • Maintain materials and equipment in good repair; inform the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor of need for repairs in timely, written communication.
  • Suggest needed educational materials, supplies, and equipment to the Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain children’s personal belongings clearly labeled with keeping an overall orderly environment.
  • Create a warm environment by decorating bulletin boards and other similar activities.
  • All MFSS Staff: As a mandated Reporter, reports all concerns of suspected CAN to Supervisor and CPS Intake Services.
  • All MFSS Staff: Provide Brief Intervention to all Participants identifying as smokers to increase the health and wellness of the child and family to and to support tobacco cessation (refer to Cessation Resources).Childcare
  • For the health, welfare, and safety of the children in the assigned group:
  • Keep accurate daily health-check records on each child in the group.
  • Take appropriate action in case of child’s illness or accident; notifying parents in a timely manner, and writing incident reports.
  • Maintain a valid first aid and CPR certification.
  • See that children are visually supervised at all times.
  • Participate in emergency drills and be aware of all emergency escape routes.
  • Immediately report strangers on the premises to the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor.
  • Participate in the daily cleaning of classroom facility, furniture, equipment, and toys.
  • Supervise meal and snack times, including following nutritional guidelines.
  • Be aware of allergies of children in the group.
  • Supervise children at all times -- on the playground, in the classroom, and on daily walks.
  • Keep daily attendance records (parent sign in/out sheets) accurately; accounting for the children at all times, especially on fieldtrips.

Instruction

  • Prepare and collect the materials needed for lessons.
  • Visually and verbally greet each child and parent daily.
  • Prepare individualized lesson plan based on program curriculum, child skill, and goals appropriate to the developmental plan and implement the daily classroom routines and curriculum; following the posted schedule and taking responsibility for the group’s activity.
  • Maintain a learning and environment appropriate to the age level of the children in the group:
  • Maintain alternating periods of quiet and play.
  • Maintain alternating periods of indoor and outdoor play.
  • Maintain a balance of self-selected and Teacher-directed learning experiences.
  • Follow the child guidance system of the Center, using positive discipline techniques.

Periodic Duties – The Teacher will:

  • Participate in any other Center activity planned by the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor.
  • Conduct home visits and parent conferences as required by Early Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Assess, evaluate, and report progress on individual children as prescribed by the Lead Teacher or Center-Based Supervisor.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other qualifications listed below are needed to adequately fulfill essential job duties.   • Current and valid driver’s license.
  • Current and clean driver’s abstract.
  • Access to vehicle for daily use.
  • Current automobile insurance.
  • Current TB clearance
  • Able to relate with sensitivity and respect to a diverse group of people.
  • Comfortable with statistical information.
  • Proficient use of computer and software applications.
  • Able to use all office equipment. (copier, computers, phone, etc.)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be responsible, flexible, organized and able to prioritize different tasks, and multi-task

Education and/or Experience:

An Infant/ Toddler Teacher shall have:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent, and, twelve months full time experience working with children under thirty six months of age in a licensed group care setting, and, twelve credits approved ECE or CD training courses, including thirty hours of course work in infant and toddler development from an accredited Caregiver Teacher training institute or program, or

A high school diploma or its equivalent, and, twenty four months of full time experience working with children under thirty six months of age in a licensed group care setting, and, thirty hours of course work in infant and toddler development from an accredited Teacher training institute or program.
