About the Role

The Oil & Gas Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and day-to-day movement of Matson Oil & Gas customers’ cargo loads to and from Alaska and the Lower 48. Facilitate relationships with trucking contract carriers and delivery agents in outlying terminals. Work closely with the Oil & Gas Logistics Manager, Project Manager, and carriers to quote, identify, plan, and coordinate shipments on behalf of Matson Navigation customers and prospective customers, by utilizing the most safe, efficient, and cost-effective means of transport.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate with the railroad, forwarders, and service providers in Alaska and the Lower 48 for material moves.
  • Determine methods of shipment, including identifying available motor carrier vendor options for over-the-road (OTR) service, determining equipment requirements, doing a cost analysis of the options, and negotiating truck costs.
  • Negotiate truck rates effectively by understanding truck capacity, material handling, and market rates, while maximizing Matson Navigation margins.
  • Focus on dispatching loads to the selected carrier, and closely monitoring the pickup, transit, and delivery of each load.
  • Identify any delays associated with shipments as they arise and implement contingency plans and/or implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Work to resolve exception events and matters regarding equipment requirements that may impact delivery schedules.
  • Communicate with customers by providing regular status reports of shipments in progress and monitor status daily.
  • Inform customers of freight delays and loads sustaining overages, shortages, and damage.
  • Correspond with manager, coworkers, and other departments to ensure execution of customer service expectations.
  • Correspond with coworkers to ensure execution of load deliveries, as well as proper invoicing, payment, and discrepancy resolution with carriers.
  • Resolve situations involving distressed loads or other trip complications.
  • Develop a knowledge and understanding of truck capacity and rates in their responsible region.
  • Provide customer support for special commodity related issues as needed.
  • Aware of State and Federal (DOT, OSHA) compliance.
  • Work to provide operational support by implementing problem solving solutions for cargo movement on our vessels or highway systems.
  • Liaise with Matson and other ocean, logistics, or LTL carriers for movement of freight.
  • Review and understand the Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Make quick, smart decisions under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel locally, and work remotely at various job sites.
  • Comply with all company rules, policies, and procedures. Work and behave safely by following all safety rules and regulations.

You have these skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills.

  • Build networking ability to establish formal and informal relationships across a variety of functions and locations.

And these qualifications:

  • Five or more (5 ) years’ experience in transportation logistics that includes cold weather transportation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in transportation/logistics.
  • Knowledge of equipment loading and securing.
  • Knowledge of dispatch procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State DOT regulations.
  • Understanding of supply chain management.
  • Ability to learn new software.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Knowledge of North Slope business and logistics.
  • Previous experience working with a union workforce.

The annual salary range for this position in Washington is $80,000 - $95,000. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
