DESCRIPTION

Matrix is looking to add a seasoned Automation Controls Engineer or Technician to our team in Maumee, OH. This position is service based and both helps to complete automation projects and answers calls to troubleshoot and solve automation and controls related problems with our customer’s Industrial Control and Automation Systems (ICAS). As needed, this position will work as a member of an established Matrix Service Team and can access and work on client’s systems remotely, access Matrix project records and engineering content, and access other supporting personnel as necessary to complete tasks. This position may also perform field support work at client sites in a preventive maintenance capacity and/or make automation changes on a routine basis. The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent customer service, troubleshooting and communication skills. This position requires a variety of widely-used control system platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens and Schneider. While industry experience varies in this role, the ideal candidate for this position will have prior experience in Food & Beverage manufacturing and/or Specialty Chemical, Automotive, Steel (or other Metals) Processing, and/or Grain Processing.Please note that employer visa sponsorship is not available at this time for this position.

Location: Candidates will be need to work near our corporate Maumee, OH, location due to location of many current Matrix service clients. Relocation will be provided. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support a culture of customer responsiveness and problem-solving to help our clients via maintaining, repairing and updating their control systems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Communicate with clients and team members via phone and electronic correspondence regarding technical questions and issues
  • Support Project start-up teams with I/O checkout and system startup/commissioning in the field
  • Provide per-call technical support to end-users by diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and debugging installed control systems applications through the following:
  • Immediate problem resolution, i.e. system reboot, cycling power, etc.
  • Conduct an in-depth investigation to identify the root cause of the problem and determine longer term solutions
  • If the investigation exhausts any solutions, the Service Representative would contact an original project team member
  • Offer site support with regularly scheduled client visits to perform scheduled maintenance and system updates. This can include patching, controls updates or additions, and troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for detailed documentation of service calls and change management
  • Provide daily support summary detailing any service call, the resolution and the date opened/closed
  • Make appropriate and timely decisions based on information provided by the client and the service contract agreement and ensure adherence to existing company policies and safety standards
  • Provide remote monitoring service as dictated by the client service agreements
  • Perform system research and help to complete automation updates as needed
  • Complete small and quick automation projects and upgrades, often interfacing with Project Managers and other engineering disciplines. You may complete larger full automation projects for these same clients, or others between service call-outs as needed. Project work is a secondary responsibility and is typically completed around/between service calls.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor OR Associate Degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology or related is preferred (or equivalent on the job experience)
  • Three or more years of systems integration experience, preferably in a customer service based role is required (routine and repetitive customer interaction is required)
  • Must possess experience with at least two of the widely-used control system platforms. Experience with current and legacy Rockwell systems (PLCs and HMIs) is required. Siemens and Schneider backgrounds are a big plus
  • Basic Electrical troubleshooting and familiarity with common manufacturing controls electrical issue resolution is required.
  • Must be able to travel overnight (approximately 15-25%) throughout the year, often on short notice (typically within the continental US states).
  • Must be able to respond to emergency service calls as directed during the day and after hours (on-call is a shared/rotated responsibility)
  • Excellent communication and customer relation skills
  • Rational decision making and problem solving ability
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong manufacturing environment troubleshooting skills are required
  • Strong candidates will have additional experience with items such as FT Transaction Manager, Vantage Point, SQL, FTBatch, Modicon PLCs, Siemens PLC programming, and Rockwell PlantPAX.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, and hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This employee may perform industrial field work which could include exposure to hazardous locations, inclement weather, moving mechanical parts, noise, ladders, uneven ground, and stairs.
