About us

Maternal and Child Health Access is a small business in HEALTH_CARE_MEDICAL in Los Angeles, CA. We are professional, agile, innovative and our goal is to Maternal and Child Health Access (MCHA) is a non-profit social service and policy agency that through direct support, individual advocacy, policy change and health care workforce transformation, MCHA is building a California where women, pregnant people and families are supported, and everyone has the opportunity to be healthy. We offer a case management program for pregnant and parenting individuals with an art and sewing economic development project; health education and support classes, including breastfeeding support; outreach for enrollment into health programs and referrals to health services; trouble-shooting for problems accessing health care or using health programs; and training and technical assistance to agencies on health programs and services available to low-income people. We conduct policy work in areas of access to care and health issue based on our experiences with low-income women and families. .

Welcome Baby is a universal home visitation program for pregnant and postpartum individuals and their families funded by First 5 LA. It is a family-centered and strength-based model that values the client as the authority on their own experience and as fully capable of fulfilling their own potential for growth. Maternal and Child Health Access and California Hospital Medical Center piloted the program in the Metro Los Angeles community and assisted with the expansion of Welcome Baby to 13 other hospitals that now also conduct the program.

The Parent Coach conducts home visits during the prenatal and postpartum period and will be responsible for supporting families, conducting assessments and providing primary parent education in the areas of breastfeeding, attachment, child development, and home safety. They refer families to community-based supports, as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in health, child development, social work, psychology, human development, or a related field.

Specialized Training: Child Development Associate (CDA) certification preferred.

Prefer Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), or willingness to be trained as CLE.

Position Requirements:

· At least two years of experience conducting maternal and child home visitation.

· Ability to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

· Ability to promote bonding and attachment between infant-primary caregiver.

· Minimum six months of experience conducting virtual home visits and assessments.

· Proven record of successful client retention.

· Ability to assess families across a broad spectrum of areas, recognizing professional boundaries and the need for consultation from other disciplines.

· Experience working with low-income families and families from diverse age, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

· Empathy, warmth, and the ability to establish ongoing supportive relationships with an ethnically diverse population.

· Ability to communicate effectively with clients using an empathetic, strength-based and client-centered approach.

· Knowledgeable about local community resources and ability to refer families to appropriate agencies.

· Knowledge of normal fetal, infant, and toddler development; prenatal and child health requirements; and early childhood education best practices.

· Familiarity with the effects of domestic violence and parental alcohol and other drug abuse on family health, parenting, and general functioning.

· Familiarity with the effects of perinatal depression on child development, parenting, and general functioning.

· Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records.

· Skill in writing to articulate concepts and ideas in notes and reports.

· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

· Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile and car insurance.

· Up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
