JOB SUMMARY: The FORTNA LPS Global Division is looking for Engineering leadership in the role of Principal Systems Engineer. Work in collaboration with LPS Engineering Managers in determining engineering resource needs for project workload both Active and Pending. The Systems Engineer will work to create a tight working relationship with Engineering Dept. Managers in an effort to maintain traceability of resource capacity and demand. The Principal Systems Engineer will also provide insight to LPS Engineering Dept Managers for those engineers who worked under their direction throughout the year for performance evaluations and reviews. The Principal Systems Engineer will provide guidance and technical support to internal/external stakeholders to ensure excellence around collaboration and creating an interdependent operating culture within the FORTNA LPS Teams. This will be accomplished by strengthening the overall automation leadership and organizational capabilities in defining processes and methods in advancing and/or creating from scratch the LPS Quick Response Teams & Systems Re-Controls Program. The FORTNA Quick Response Teams will be comprised of a multi-disciplined team of highly skilled engineers, who will be responsible for working closely with the LPS Client Support Teams & Field Services group to support and aid in recovery of client inoperable systems. In some cases, that will require immediate on-site systems support. As the Principal Systems Engineer, you will be responsible in determining capacity requirements, recruitment and the readiness of the QRT. The FORTNA LPS Re-Controls Program will require the Principal Systems Engineer to provide an enterprise mindset that will be heavily depended on in collaboration with Business Development, Account Executives, and PMO teams in strategic planning efforts to provide prioritization of projects/sites to be engaged for LPS re-control opportunities. A strong project management skill set will be required to support project and program operational readiness. Strong stakeholder management skills to manage internal and external stakeholders deemed critical to the Re-Controls Program. Excellent influencing/collaboration skills and teamwork mindset. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and ability to coach and mentor teams through complex problems. Ability to challenge the status quo with a continuous improvement mindset. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide expert insight into Distribution and Fulfillment systems with a focus on Machine and Warehouse Controls systems. Participate in collaborative cross-divisional discussions/workshops geared towards continuously improving standards, processes, and products (Software and Hardware) . Coordinate and balance workload using internal and external resources to complete scheduled engineering activities as required. Lead the execution of automation projects, to achieve business goals, meet production schedules and realize value. Own timely delivery of project work, budget, plan, and documentation. Build and transfer knowledge of Legacy FORTNA-based systems to LPS Business Development, Operations, Client Support, and Maintenance teams. Assist in the Development of functional, system, and business strategies, roadmaps and capabilities related to the Delivery and or the Support of Material Handling Automated systems. Work closely with colleagues from Operations, Client Support & Business Development to identify business opportunities or needs. Proficiently partner with external contract companies and suppliers. In a collaborative role, we may invite our new colleague to support additional (ad-hoc, optional) automation responsibilities: Support the development of our Automation Network, Process Analytical Tools (PAT), Data Integrity (DI), Functional safety, and cybersecurity. Study, adopt and build traction for efficient emerging technologies, challenge the status quo, and drive improvement). QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent, with 10 years of experience. Work-related experience will be taken into consideration in lieu of a degree. Experience managing a matrix-based team of at least 10-15 people. Understands the financial responsibilities when managing a team and ensures team members accurately complete time sheets, are staying within or under budget, providing process improvements, and balancing workloads. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with executives, engineers, salespeople, vendors, and peers Excellent management skills for directing, coaching, scheduling, and assisting team members Familiar with the standard-used controls programming concepts, practices, and procedures typically used in the material handling industry. Experience within an industrial controls environment which includes: PLC programming (Rockwell and Twin CAT Software preferred, Siemens software a plus) Structured Text Programming HMI Programming (Ignition and FRV is preferred) Field Device Hardware design and implementation. Industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Devicenet, Profinet, etc.) Database Low voltage electrical design and drawing creation. Experience using CAD software to create electrical drawings and schematics. (Autocad) Experience with networked VFDs, Servos, and other motor controllers and best practices in design & integration to overall systems controls. Experience with Microsoft 365 - Office Apps. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must be self-motivated, self-aware, detail-oriented, and results-focused. Expert understanding of programmable logic controllers, Industrial PCs, and industrial networks. Understanding of the function and design of highly integrated automated material handling systems. Ability to schedule, manage and execute complex system implementations, enhancements, and retrofits. Ability to collaborate and communicate with FORTNA team members, project managers, and customers in a professional written and spoken manner. Ability to take direction from Sr leadership with little or no details and create a road map for teams to follow. Collaborate with Engineering colleagues in the constructive dialog that promotes a highly efficient work environment. Lead Engineering teams to support the project and ensure all aspects of project goals are achieved. Ability to produce quality designs, drawings, programs, and documentation with minimal errors. WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc. When traveling the job environment shifts to a site-based, typically industrial. When traveling this role routinely uses appropriate PPE, electrical diagnostic tools, electrical implementation tools, laptops, and networking equipment. TRAVEL: Generally, this position requires up to 30% travel to various sites.
