Matchatalent Global is Hiring a (Software) Senior BI Developer - Informatica, Microsoft BI Near Vancouver, WA

Our client is an agency of the government of Canada responsible for a large segment of the international transportation of goods into our country. The Senior BI developer is instrumental in developing solutions and providing technical support for the enterprise data management platform and BI solutions, including Extract, Transform, Load (ETL), reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions. This developer will be implementing scalable analytics through data management platforms like Informatica or other Microsoft BI/ reporting solutions and common services such as Data Governance and Data Quality in hybrid data architecture (cloud and on-premises).

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer will:

  • Work with business and IT stakeholders to scope out projects including functional and technical deliverables, cost estimates, resources, and identification of benefits
  • As part of the data infrastructure team, participate in analysis, planning and developing detailed roadmaps for the modernization of the existing data platform
  • Share the technical ownership of organization's datalake with other team members; including both on-premises (SQL server enterprise) and cloud-based environments (Azure/AWS).
  • Work closely with the manager, data engineer and network and infrastructure security team, create, design, implement and test data models and database management systems
  • Support the full analytics cycle of data design, ETL development, validating and reporting (either Agile or Waterfall). Help improve overall design and delivery standards
  • Ensure all upgrades, additions and changes to data infrastructure, tools and reporting portals are consistent in supporting the IS department’s service level commitments
  • Research new technologies, implement proofs of concept/MVPs and make recommendations to build scalable and supportable infrastructure, as appropriate
  • Perform root-cause analysis for service interruption and develop solutions to complex technical problems and take appropriate urgent actions
  • Configure, perform and monitor system level backups and restore via enterprise level backup solutions
  • Proactively maintain data infrastructure: database servers, performance monitoring, security configuration, database software (SQL) - installation, patching, upgrades, decommissioning
  • Develop feasible data backup and recovery procedures to prevent data loss - high availability and disaster recovery procedures
  • Implement and maintain database security (user access, roles and privileges) and audit functions
  • Plan for storage and capacity for raw data sources ingestion into datalake
  • Monitor, tune and optimize the performance of databases
  • Create and update database objects.
  • Write/deploy database procedures and scripts where required
  • Participate in the collection, extraction, analysis, and documentation of analytics solutions from design through to code level
  • Create/enhance and document logical and physical database models
  • Create semantic layer views for reporting/dashboard and analytics
  • Build and deploy visualizations/reports using PowerBI or Tableau to either on-premise and/or cloud environments
  • Writing either MDX / DAX in PowerBI or Calculated fields in Tableau
  • Create multi-dimensional and tabular models as required
  • Keep project management boards like JIRA up to date to reflect changes and complete work.
  • Participate in health and safety initiatives and comply with established policy, procedures and guidelines to protect yourself and your work colleagues.
  • Report concerns, hazards, risks and incidents to management for follow-up

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess a degree in Information Technology or an acceptable degree in a related field from a recognized post-secondary educational institution, along with a minimum of 5 years’ of senior BI development experience in a mid to large corporate enterprise environment.

Demonstrated experience with the following: 

  • Physical and logical design of database architecture for relational databases, data warehouses and datalakes
  • Database optimization, data replication, database recovery and performance tuning
  • Cloud data platforms (Azure and AWS) along with on-premises data integration
  • Expertise in data warehousing & Data Integration - dimensional modelling, facts, dimensions, helper tables, SCD concepts etc.
  • A minimum of 6 months hands-on development experience in building automated data piplelines using platforms like Informatica PowerCenter (cloud IICS) - usage of mapplets, various data ingestion methods – batch, real-time, APIs etc., reusable transformations, aggregates, lookups, caches, performance tuning, joiners, rank, router, update strategy, workflows etc.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience with platforms like Informatica Data Quality IDQ 10.X - mapping, workflows, application, Data profiling, Data Cleansing and Standardization and building reusability logic, IDQ advanced transformations, AddressDoctor etc.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in integrating various components: IICS, Axon, enterprise data catalogue and IDQ with on-prem datalake and visualization tools in platforms like Informatica
  • Solid skills with the Microsoft BI technology stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL Server, TSQL, MDX, DAX, Power BI, Power Pivot, Power Query)
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git/CICD or TFS as code version controlling tool
  • Understanding of on-premises and on cloud dashboard deployments
  • Functional programing languages (R, Python etc.), APIs and web services
  • Data security principles, efficiency, quality and governance
  • Complex technical and architectural documentation skills

Following will be considered as an asset:

  • Informatica certifications (PowerCenter cloud developer/Admin, IDQ developer etc.)
  • Experience in implementing enterprise data governance framework
  • Cloud architecture/developer certifications (Azure or AWS)
  • Experience with AI/ML enabled Data Management, datalakes, big data, real time/ near real time analytics and IOT Integration projects

This position is ideal for an individual who is/has excellent organizational skills with the flexibility to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines are required. Proven diagnostic, problem solving, team skills are essential, along with an excellent "customer service" approach. The individual must be self-motivated, self-starter and work with minimal supervision with an excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to communicate both technically and non-technically, as appropriate.

Normal working office conditions and may be required to occasionally respond to off-hour calls for system critical issues.

The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid federal Security Clearance as this position is required to access restricted areas/information.
