Job SummaryThe Substation Technician maintains and preforms repairs, modifications, replacements and installation of a wide variety of electrical and electronic equipment systems while adhering to EEI’s Safety First Culture.
This role supports the construction of new Substations as well as modifications, and upgrades of existing Substations for Electrical Utility Companies. Per diem is provided when applicable.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities
  • Work safely while assisting in new/existing construction and various tasks such as:
    • Demolition
    • Site preparation
    • Excavating
    • Backfilling
    • Landscaping
    • Trenching
    • Pole setting
    • Cable labeling
  • Read and understand system maps to become knowledgeable in general electric distribution system layout, system substation capacities and load areas, substation circuit feeds, and general system sectionalizing.
  • Assist with installing transformer and transformer banks, bus structures and switchgear, lines (underground/overhead), ground grid, control buildings, and other related substation material tasks.
  • Able to operate forklifts and maintain a valid forklift certification.
  • Will work with man baskets, skid steers, shovels, compactors, back hoes and other industry equipment.
  • Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care.
  • Understands and complies with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Obtain and maintain a valid State Class C driver’s license.
  • Must have previous substation experience
  • Must be willing to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10.
  • 4 years of substation experince
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
