Overview

 POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for maintaining the operations and appearance of Wanzek Construction’s equipment at the jobsite level, will be supervised directly by project personnel but will also work with Shop Manager to plan and schedule work or seek advice or assistance. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities

  •  POSITION SUMMARY:

    Responsible for maintaining the operations and appearance of Wanzek Construction’s equipment at the jobsite level, will be supervised directly by project personnel but will also work with Shop Manager to plan and schedule work or seek advice or assistance.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Fleet maintenance management
    • Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on all equipment troubleshooting and/or determine if repairs will be done in the field, Wanzek’s shop, a dealership or other method
    • Travel to jobsites for repairs, inspections, review field maintenance to ensure it is done properly, review maintenance reports
    • Onsite field repairs/troubleshooting
    • Update the equipment locator list and update equipment and tool inventory
    • Develop and maintain an equipment maintenance tracking database
    • Maintain proper record keeping
    • Fleet maintenance management 
    • Update tool inventory
    • Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect equipment for defects
    • Ensure all equipment has an equipment ID (logo, unit numbers, digital photos)
    • Verify USDOT annual inspections in trucks and on file in office
    • Ensure equipment safety (i.e. backup alarms, lights, seat belts, fire extinguishers, rigging, etc.)
    • Show a general interest in all basic machines, including crane safety (anti two blocks, rigging, crane maintenance daily log book/annual inspection, etc.); investigate or question others to ensure logs and two blocks are correct, etc.
    • Occasionally travel to jobsites for repairs, inspections review field maintenance to ensure it is done properly and review maintenance reports
    • Review with operators and superintendent’s maintenance records and major repairs in order for crews to be self-sufficient and responsible for their own maintenance
    • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards
    • Diagnose single system problems in mechanical electric or hydraulic systems
    • Communicate to obtain needed parts
    • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
    • Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
    • Road test vehicles when required
    • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
    • Keep shop area neat and clean
    • Maintain and accountable for all shop tools and manuals be returned to the proper place and in the same condition as received
    • Understand, keep abreast of and comply with federal, state and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
    • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
    • Report any safety issues immediately to management

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • One-year certificate from college or technical school or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles
    • Ability to ready schematics
    • Ability to complete all aspects of OEM recommended services for engine, transmission, and hydraulic systems on construction equipment and vehicles. 
    • Ability to track and maintain records of completed work and update status of open work orders
    • Ability to complete scheduled maintenance tasks including but not limited to: Wheel and tire changes, Cutting edge replacement, DOT inspections, Services
    • Ability to identify and request parts and complete repairs using OEM manuals.
    • Ability to use digital systems such as email, phone/tablet for inspections and photos, time tracking application, digital OEM manuals
    • Willingness to learn
    • Good attitude

    Physical Demands and Work Environment – ALL SHOP POSITIONS

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
    • Frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions high, precarious places, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud

Qualifications

  • This position requires working in the internal and external environment, flexible work schedule, nights and / or weekends will be required.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read engineering drawings and procedure manuals
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Knowledge and operation of various GPS systems
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Workers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy; follow set procedures and standards, judge distances and slopes accurately; and make decisions based on verifiable standards
  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in structural fills, DOT, and other public and private entities
