Biotech Lab Assistant (Part-Time Student Employee)

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time, student employment position with no benefits.

MassBay biotech lab is looking for two contracted student interns who are fast learners, highly motivated, energetic, and detail-oriented, willing to work a minimum of ten hours per week on a flexible schedule, 40 weeks (30 weeks per academic year, ten weeks in summer).

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

* Assist in the administration of Biotech departmental tasks;

* Maintained the biotech laboratory, cleaning, sterilizing glass wares, plastic wares, and equipment;

* Perform standard testing procedures and analysis;

* Perform antibody titration;

* Receive, catalog, and prepare samples before lab experiments;

* Reagent and Buffer Preparation;

* Conduct Gel Electrophoresis;

* Autoclaving, preparation of test materials, stocking of supplies.

Required Qualifications:

* College or graduate level students or currently enrolled in Biotechnology/ Life Sciences classes;

* Effective communication and organization skills;

* Able and willing to learn and incorporate new concepts and technologies;

* Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new working environments;

* Basic laboratory skills in cell culture and DNA/RNA/Protein work.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;

* Experience working in a diverse environment;

* Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;

* Prior experience working in Biotechnology/Biomanufacturing lab.

Salary Range: $19 per hour
