The responsibilities of this full-time Institution Security Officer (ISO) position include but are not limited to the following: Operate various telecommunications equipment including Computer Aided Dispatch(CAD), Motorola Radio system, and alarm systems, access internal databases, respond/assist campus law enforcement in emergencies, make notifications as directed, stay current with training/certifications as directed, dispatch calls, perform clerical functions, write reports, articulate observations, and patrol campus property. The ISO will be approachable and remain community orientated while providing directions, addressing medical needs, event security, enforcing campus safety policies and taking appropriate action with behaviors that may cause harm and/or disruption to the campus community. The ISO may conduct surveillance, issue violations, assist/participate in training drills, community events, assist campus law enforcement and prepare/review department reports. The ISO will effectively multi-task and stay current with applications of the following laws including, but not limited to, HIPPA, FERPA, Clery Reporting, Policy on Affirmative Action, Title IX, and Sexual Harassment, and all related College policies.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Act as first responder to campus emergencies, medical and criminal, that could potentially be hazardous and/or life threatening
  • Perform effectively and efficiently in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Make regular inspection tours of the campus facilities noting unusual occurrences.
  • Unlock buildings as scheduled for events and ensures all windows and doors are locked as scheduled.

  • Watch for trespassers, fire, water leaks, or other circumstances which could lead to loss of or damage to property and equipment

  • Observe and report hazardous conditions to the campus police department
  • Direct students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and assist as necessary
  • Monitor parking lots and direct traffic and parking as necessary.
  • Be able to work outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods of time
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and members of the public.
  • Works closely with the campus police department's command staff and participate in any and all training as determined appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or their designee.
Job Requirements:

Must possess at least (A) one year of full time, or equivalent part time, experience in law enforcement in a governmental police force or work involving the protection or security of buildings, equipment or people as the major duty, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experiences and following substitutions:
Substitutions:

An Associate's or higher degree with a major in police science, law enforcement or criminal justice may be substituted for the required experience.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer software used within department to include, but not limited to, law enforcement/security computer aided dispatch programs, Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Prior experience in working in a campus law enforcement/security department.
  • The ability to understand and apply complex policies and procedures relating to campus safety and law enforcement.
  • Possess excellent critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to independently handle tasks and projects.
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritize emergency situations.
  • Able to mentally analyze situations, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions under pressure.
  • Read and understand written instruction and communicate information and ideas in clear and concise written form
  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
  • Experience in understanding and following operational policies and procedures relating to public safety.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid certificate

Position Status:
Full-time benefitted, AFSCME Union position (2 positions open)

Hours: 40 hours per week, schedule will vary

Salary: Grade 13, Step 1 ($43,351.36)

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
