MASSASOIT COMMUNITY COLLEGE is Hiring an Accountant II, Business Office Near Brockton, MA

Job Description:

The Accountant II reports to the Assistant Comptroller and performs general ledger account reconciliations, prepares financial reports and maintains financial accounting records. This position is also responsible for the recording and reconciliation of the non-IT inventory.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Reconciliation of financial documents, records transactions and creation of reports to ensure conformance with established accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable GASB rules, state regulation and internal control standards.
  • Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations as assigned.
  • Reconciliation of Federal and State Financial Aid disbursements.
  • Reconciliation of state appropriations.
  • Responsible for the non-IT inventory for the college at all locations.
  • Identify areas of process improvement for inventory control. Review policies on inventory and recommend changes to the inventory policy for process improvement.
  • Identify procedures for the movement of all non-IT equipment and furniture.
  • Conduct and manage the non-IT physical inventory. Update the inventory records as appropriate.
  • Maintain the non-IT inventory, currently in Excel.
  • Reconciliation of the non-IT inventory to the inventory records in Banner.
  • Produce reports on the physical inventory of each area of the college for management and audit purposes.
  • Research and recommend new software to track and manage non-IT inventory.
  • Perform document management for the Accounting Department. Scans all documents, invoices, direct pay documentation, and journal entries and indexes these documents in the Banner Accounting system.
  • Analyze certain funds and expense accounts as assigned.
  • Assist with Accounts Payable.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries.
  • Maintain unclaimed checks including contacting students and vendors to resolve un-cashed checks. Initialize the void and reissue process for funds claimed.
  • Maintain and track utility usage and vendor charges.
  • Assist with year-end close and annual audit.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. *

II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience. *

*Education toward such a degree with be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Qualifications Required at Hire in All Levels in Series:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting.
  • Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of accounting data, to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ellucian's Banner system.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in Excel.
  • Excellent computer and customer service skills.
  • Experience with account reconciliations.
  • Strong planning, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in inventory control.
  • Ability to work constructively with a diverse workforce.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Ability to interact with all sectors of the college community.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher with a major in accounting.

Salary: $ 1,919.16 bi-weekly, ($49,898.16 annually), Grade 16 Step 1
