GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
Reporting to the Training & Staff Development Manager, Central Sterile Processing & Supply (CSPS) and within established hospital and departmental policies, the Supervisor, Training & Staff Development oversees, supervise and coordinates the daily training activities to support the work functions of the CSPS department, including; critical and semi-critical device reprocessing activities, customer service, inventory and supply management functions, and ensuring practices align with established policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring patient safety through active management and education of infection control processes, sterility assurance, and equipment/ instrumentation availability, and maintaining an expert level of supply functions.This role routinely collaborates with all role groups within CSPS to support the comprehensive training needs of the department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

*Perform Managerial duties during the Manager/designate absence. If necessary, provides coverage to other shifts, i.e., sick calls, vacations.

*Ensures compliance with work instructions, regulatory requirements, and established policies and procedures across all functions.
*Assists with training demonstrations, competency testing and employee performance evaluations.
*Demonstrates knowledge of processes by actively performing daily departmental functions when necessary.

*Responsible for creating daily work assignments for the Staff Development Coordinator team, continually reassess production capacity and adjusts as needed.
*Provides guidance to manager on vacation approvals.
*Demonstrates support for the management team when assigned to various projects.
*Maintains appropriate level of professionalism and decorum among staff members.
*Designs and implements all aspects of the training and orientation for all department employees
*Evaluates new hires and trainees' work performance and makes recommendations to management.
*Identifies specific skill sets in need of development departmentwide, develops appropriate action plan.
*Educates staff to new evidence-based technologies, changes in policies and procedures and evaluated the effectiveness of such innovations.
*Coordinates Competency Program, Orientation, In-Service Programs and maintains all department employee training records.
*Assists with inventories as needed and initiates in-house or outside orders in accordance with established par levels, whenever needed.
*Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control practices through stock rotation and removal of expired items from inventory.
*Participates in consolidation and standardization of supplies and equipment for the department.
*Collaborates with the Customer service team to ensure products are available for use.
*Communicates all relevant information regarding supplies to key stake holders including but not limited to product availability, back orders, and substitutions.
*Maintains proper documentation in accordance with the regulatory agencies and departmental protocols.
*Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in all functions and tasks of the CSPS Department.
*Communicates effectively; verbal and written in English.
*Accepts and transmits messages effectively in English.
*Practices and promotes telephone etiquette as an essential job function.
*Participates in the development of department in-services as appropriate.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
*Strong work ethic and flexibility are essential.
*Must be able to work independently.
*Must have basic computer skills; including Microsoft Office and similar programs.
EDUCATION
Minimum Required: High school diploma, GED or equivalent | Preferred: Some college or Associate's Degree |
EXPERIENCE
Required: 3 years of progressive Sterile Processing experience in a peri-operative setting.
Preferred: Experience gained as a Lead SPD Technician, Surgical Scrub Tech, or prior Supervisory experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly responsible for the activities of up to 10 assigned employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
*Involves large amounts of time walking and standing.
*Involves large amount of time spent breaking down pallets and moving contents on rolling carts.
*Exposure to the Operating Room environment is a requirement.
*A strict dress code and professional appearing including wearing surgical scrubs is required.
*Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 lbs. stoop, bend, pull, and place and retrieve material.
