The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of recovery support services and community culture within Massachusetts to address the barriers to successful recovery and provide links to community resources. The incumbent will need to have flexibility to work during normal business hours. Primary responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Serves as a linkage manager for an NIH-funded study, delivering two brief interventions to patients with opioid use disorder who are enrolled in the study (anticipated ~2-3 patients per month)
  • Works collaboratively with the research team to deliver the interventions, and to document patient milestones and other relevant information
  • Conducts outreach efforts to patients and peer volunteers enrolled in the study to facilitate patient linkage to recovery support centers
  • Provides study staff with feedback on the interventions to guide revisions to their content and delivery

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend meetings with study personnel to train in intervention delivery and role responsibilities (initial training & refreshers, as needed)
  • Perform outreach to patients with opioid use disorder who are enrolled in the study to schedule their intervention session
  • Meet with patients enrolled in the study, deliver the brief intervention to them, and provide them with resources on recovery support services
  • Audio/video record intervention sessions with patients and save recording files to the study share drive
  • Work with patients to identify a recovery support center that works for them, using a list of centers provided by study staff
  • Perform outreach to peers at recovery support centers who have volunteered to help with patient linkage, assign peers to patients, and facilitate their introduction to each other
  • Maintain communication with active peer volunteers who are attempting to connect with a patient
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on patients enrolled in the study, including regularly documenting and reporting patient/peer milestones and other relevant information to study staff
  • Provide feedback to study staff on intervention and study-related procedures after delivering the intervention to the first 3-4 patients to guide potential modifications
  • Participate in an exit interview at the end of the study to provide feedback on the interventions for the purpose of guiding future modifications to intervention content/delivery
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2 years in sustained and uninterrupted recovery at time of hire required; 3-5 years of sustained and uninterrupted recovery preferred
  • Successful completion of a CCAR approved Recovery Coach Academy required
  • Demonstrated understanding of the multiple pathways approach to recovery from opioid and other substance use disorders, and willingness to embrace a patient-centered approach that recognizes an individual's preferences and autonomy ("recovery by any means necessary")
  • Demonstrated understanding of the efficacy of Medication for Addiction Treatment as one of the multiple pathways to recovery
  • Strong advocacy skills along with knowledge of community based services, resources, and local recovery community
  • Excels at problem solving, time management, and multi-tasking; organized, efficient, and goal directed
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients and study staff, including effective boundaries with patients and staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
