Massachusetts General Hospital is Hiring a BFT -HIV/Aging Research Administration Fall Intern Near Boston, MA

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

We are offering a paid Research Administration internship for undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in management, public health, non-governmental organizations, health services, human resources, or research administration. The internship will focus on HIV and Aging and will last for 6-8 weeks during the Summer and Fall seasons. Note that this internship is one of two open HIV/Aging internship opportunities. The HIV/Aging Research Administration Internship leverages business and management skills to support the research community, and careers in research administration offer ample opportunity for movement between institutions and scientific or medical subspecialties, as well as growth and leadership opportunities. Each intern will be paired with a specific Program Manager mentor from the Medical Practice Evaluation Center (MPEC) or the Center for Aging & Serious Illness (CASI). Then, each intern will spend 2-3 weeks with a Clinical Research Coordinator, Program Manager, and Faculty Investigator to participate in a variety of projects and work that reflect these types of careers.

At , research teams use computer simulation models and cost-effectiveness analysis, as well as implementation science and epidemiology to address questions of value in global health care with a primary focus on HIV and its complications and associated conditions.brings together multidisciplinary researchers (e.g., medical doctors, surgeons, physical therapists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and social workers) across Mass General Hospital and the Boston community to improve the well-being of older adults and enhance the lived experience of people with advanced illnesses to achieve health equity and to holistically shape health policy.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

What Interns will do:
  • Assist in building budgets and engaging procurement/logistics support.
  • Assist in the submission of research grant progress reports.
  • Orchestrate the exit process for departing employees.
  • Prepare onboarding and training plans for new hires.
  • Draft Standard Operating Procedure and protocol documentation.
  • Prepare Institutional Review Board documents.
  • Coordinate timelines for projects.
  • Design and produce surveys.
  • Develop figures and tables for scientific manuscripts.
Additional Opportunities:
  • Career mentoring sessions from MPEC and CASI staff and faculty.

*Exposure to the lifecycle of research projects.

*Learning about a diversity of roles and career opportunities that contribute to research and public health initiatives (e.g., HR, project management, grants administration).

*Development of professional skills regarding multidisciplinary team communication and best practices for project planning (e.g., timelines, breaking larger problems into pieces).

*Development of technical skills, including writing skills and exploring the visual representation of data (e.g., development of figures and tables).

*Network with other student interns, MGH faculty and staff.

Qualifications

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Member of a group that is underrepresented in medicine and/or public health (URiM) as defined by the National Institutes of Health. .
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate institution.
  • Availability to attend the program in its entirety (see Summer and Fall start and end dates).
  • Interns who have completed a Research Administration Internship at MPEC/CASI remain eligible to participate subsequently in the Research Methods Internship (and vice versa).
  • Authorized to work in the US.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This paid part-time position will be conducted in a standard office setting, requiring a commitment of 15 to 20 hours per week for 12 to 18 weeks. It's a hybrid role, with the expectation that most of the hours will be spent working in person.

Flexible scheduling for these hybrid hours is available, and we're open to discussing arrangements to accommodate individual needs. However, our preference is for the hours to align with the standard workday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
