Job Description:

Under the direction of the Student and Program Manager, the Education Administrator provides essential administrative support for the museum's education department initiatives. As a teaching museum, MAAM educates and inspires the next generation of artists, designers, and museum professionals at MassArt. The Education Administrator ensures a positive and rewarding student experience at MAAM and supports the operation of the Museum's education initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Work to create and sustain a fun, positive, collaborative, and team-oriented culture and student employment experience.
  • Prepare and maintain a weekly student employee schedule, including coordinating student availability, scheduling requests, addressing scheduling issues and conflicts, and scheduling for special events and public programs.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily student employee shift rotations.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for student employees when on site.
  • Support the student employee evaluation process, including facilitating student employee reviews.
  • Support the implementation of museum programs and events, both discrete and ongoing, including programs offered in the Barkan Big Ideas Studio. Organize, maintain, and oversee upkeep of the Studio space.
  • Support ongoing visitor experience training opportunities for student employees.
  • Maintain the Student Recharge Area to create a welcoming and motivational onsite experience for student employees.
  • Work closely with other museum staff and assist with the overall daily operations of the department as needed.
  • Promote the University's commitment to diversity, collegiality, and service excellence by building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed, ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information, maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible scheduling with evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work.
  • Availability on Thursdays (preferred) and Sundays (required).
  • Office is an open workspace with seated desks.
  • Collaborative team environment with frequent group meeting participation.

Physical Effort

  • Occasional (10-33%) reaching, pushing, grasping and pulling. Lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent (34-66%) standing and walking.
  • Constant (67-100%) viewing of computer screen and reports, sitting, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

Requirements:

Experience

  • Experience successfully supervising a team.
  • Experience developing and maintaining employee schedules.
  • Experience in a customer service environment.

Skills

  • Time management skills: You manage your time effectively and efficiently and possess the ability to successfully manage the schedules of others.
  • Written communication skills: You clearly and succinctly communicate important information via email, messaging, etc and develop strategies to collect important information from employees in a timely fashion.
  • Anticipation skills: You anticipate the needs of employees and the needs of the department and take action as necessary. You're proactive rather than reactive.
  • Multitasking skills: You possess the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects concurrently in a busy work environment informed by the ebbs and flows of the academic calendar.
  • Customer service skills: You foster welcoming and inclusive experiences for museum visitors and excel in a public-facing environment.
  • Technological skills: You are proficient with, or are willing to quickly learn, technologies such as Google Suite, Slack, Qualtrics, Homebase scheduling software, and personal computers.
  • Ability to physically lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Interest in and appreciation of contemporary art preferred.
