Massachusetts College of Art and Design is Hiring an Assistant Director, Student Accessibility Near Boston, MA

With an understanding of current and pending state and local disability legislation (In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1973, Section 504 and the Amendments Act (ADAA) of 2009), the Assistant Director of Student Accessibility provides advocacy and assistance for a diverse community of matriculating and continuing education students who have cognitive, physical, and psychological challenges. The Assistant Director of Student Accessibility is responsible for the development and implementation of necessary accommodations.

SALARY RANGE: $58,000 - $65,000 Commensurate with Experience
Position is governed by the Association of Professional Administrators

Essential Functions:

  • Meet with incoming students and parent/guardians to discuss expectations for post secondary classroom accommodations.
  • Assess documentation and work with students to develop and implement appropriate classroom and campus housing accommodations;
  • Develop trainings for faculty on universal design and teaching students with disabilities;
  • Collaborate with students and Housing and Residence Life staff to develop and appropriate housing accommodations;
  • Schedule sign language interpreters and CART reporters from outside of the college, as needed;
  • Dialogue with students on a regular basis to assure that required accommodations are being met in and out of the classroom;
  • Co-Facilitate groups for neurodivergent students;
  • Advise college organizations for students with disabilities;
  • Search, identify and evaluate new and existing assistive technology and make recommendations of purchases and/or other utilization arrangements;
  • Utilize electronic systems for tracking and storing disability documentation and creating accommodation forms
  • Collaborate with Admissions Office and the Office of Counseling and Wellness on the planning and administration of our pre-college readiness program PREVIEW
  • Monitor and update a variety of disability processes and educational content on all relevant websites, ensuring accuracy. Ensure appropriate resources are accessible and available.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Two or more years prior experience working with students with disabilities and determining appropriate and reasonable accommodations required, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Proficiency in ADA and Section 504 laws; ability to interpret language and make related recommendations
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and analyzing Neuropsychological Evaluations and implementing related reasonable accommodations based on the content of the evaluation
  • Demonstrated success in creating and delivering educational programs, which enhance the student experience, elicit engagement and increase learnings
  • Knowledge of assistive technology is required
  • Requires strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and computer skills
  • Ability to work and communicate inclusively and effectively within a broadly diverse community

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree preferred in the fields of Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Education, Rehabilitation Services, or related field
  • Spanish speaking
