Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community, and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population.

This position serves as a part of the public safety department responsible for patrolling campuses and buildings, assisting college community members in a proactive manner, providing a police presence on campus as the eyes and ears for administration, conducting investigations as appropriate, and working and acting in a manner to achieve crime prevention and community safety. The Campus Police Officer shall perform duties in an honest and respectful manner to provide quality customer service and assistance.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Patrol the buildings and grounds of the College and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle to ensure the security of buildings and grounds and to guard against trespass, theft, damage to property, fire, and injury to individuals;
  • Maintain order amongst visitors and students; direct traffic and parking of automobiles; provide information as needed;
  • Exercise police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators; investigate accidents and complaints;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Knowledge of police procedures and practices and fire prevention methods;
  • Knowledge of law of arrest and criminal procedures in lower courts;
  • Ability to maintain student discipline, deal with the public, recognize fire hazards and to walk long hours alone, indoors and out, under varying weatherc conditions;
  • Possession of a current valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License;
  • Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer under chapter 22C, Section 63 of the Massachusetts General Laws and must be eligible to become POST Certified, undergoing an extensive background investigation and CORI Check. State and National Background Check, including fingerprinting and employment history and a negative check of the candidate on the National Decertification Index.
  • Must pass a police entry-level psychological screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Working knowledge of the building and grounds of the College and of its rules and regulations;
  • POST Certified;
  • First responder/ CPR / EMT certified;
  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field;
  • Current LTC with the city or town of residency.

Salary Range:
AFSCME Unit I, Grade 16 Step 7 $59,731.10 annually. Appointments from outside the bargaining unit begin at Step 1 of the range
