Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. The candidate is expected to commit to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration and professional development. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver course materials in a learner-centered environment conductive to engaging students in the learning process. The faculty member in this position communicates consistently and effectively with students, faculty and administrators, and responds to communications within a 24 hour period of time. The faculty is responsible for managing this course through timely grading of assignments, providing substantial student feedback with assignments, and submission of clinical evaluations, attendance and grades.

MassBay Community College seeks a qualified part time Phlebotomy Instructor beginning summer 2024 and future semesters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. The Phlebotomy Instructor assists in teaching courses and in assessing and evaluating students in the clinical environment. The Phlebotomy Instructor teaches students and prepares them for clinicals. This includes assisting to ensure student health documents are sufficient to start the program. This professional oversees students in a variety of health care settings. The instructor must have phlebotomy teaching and clinical experience, communicate effectively, and be able to assess students objectively, and work as part of a team. The instructor has obtained appropriate certification where applicable and has earned appropriate education in the field of Phlebotomy or higher. Opportunities exist for working with other clinical-based programs depending on the candidate’s additional clinical certifications.


Summer Semester & Times:

PB 100 Phlebotomy – Principles & Methods of Phlebotomy (Online Lecture) - 1st 6 weeks of semester

May 20 - June 28, 2024. Lecture- paid by the credit: Range $1291-$1561 per credit.

Days and Times: Clinical M-F 8-5 pm

PB 105 Phlebotomy Clinical Practicum – 2nd 6 weeks of semester

July 8 – August 16, 2024

Varied days and times depending on student’s clinical schedule.

Clinical- paid by the credit: Range $1291.00 -1561.00 per credit.


Non-Instructional Work

Non-instructional time spent reviewing and ensuring student health documents are sufficient to start the program and work related to this is compensated at $35/hr for up to 6 hrs/week. This work occurs primarily before the semester begins and during the first 1-3 weeks of the semester.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements, and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
  • Use appropriate assessment methods consistently and regularly to measure student understanding;
  • Maintain excellent communication with students, department, and division staff throughout the semester;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Work with the clinical compliance officer and students to assist students in uploading clinical documents to Viewpoint Screening and verify readiness for clinic;
  • Assist in ensuring health documents are sufficient to start the program;
  • Assess students in the clinical environment;
  • Advocate for clinical placements;
  • Use the College’s technology platforms effectively to communicate with students and colleagues to enhance online learning, as appropriate;
  • Be proficient in all areas of Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute Guidelines (CLSI), special specimen procurement and relevant anatomy;
  • Follow protocols and procedures and follow the curriculum;
  • Adhere to OSHA and CLIA Standards;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current unrestricted certification as a phlebotomist or higher;
  • A minimum of two years recent clinical work experience as a phlebotomist in a phlebotomy lab environment;
  • Must be fully COVID immunized including COVID Booster;
  • Must be and remain current on immunizations and titers;
  • Must provide proof of these immunizations and titers upon request.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Presentation experience preferred;
  • Bilingual language skills;
  • Certified/credentialed in Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy or higher.
