Consultant Position Summary

Mi’s work includes conducting needs assessments, facilitating planning, and supporting partners to implement and continuously improve strategies that increase equitable experiences and outcomes for all students. We also support the development and implementation of district school improvement zones, cross-district school improvement networks and state-wide school improvement strategies. At Mass Insight, Consultants provide expert support for projects under the direction of a team leader, and are responsible for major elements of projects. Consultants work directly with Mass Insight partners, and often manage and develop more junior staff.

Within 12 months in the role, a new Consultant on the Mi team will typically be able to take on the buckets of work listed below:

Project and People Management

  • Individually manage their own resources and time to deliver client-ready work
  • Manage one or more Analysts to predetermined outcomes
  • Operationalize a scope of work (e.g. take big goals and objectives and create a concrete plan)

Client Engagement

  • Lead client facing meetings including design and facilitation of workshops, work sessions, professional development, and planning
  • Build the trust of client-partners and influence and inspire action of clients over whom they have no direct authority
  • Own and deliver on elements or components of a scope of work
  • Design and write full reports
  • Manage stakeholder engagement in diagnostics and planning processes
  • Coach clients and client teams

Business Development & Thought Leadership

  • Contribute to thought leadership by synthesizing learnings in multiple forums (internal documents, blog posts, conference attendance)
  • Plan and execute outstanding client interactions, leading to client satisfaction and repeat business
  • Contribute to some new business development efforts such as writing RFPs or joining prospective client calls and networking

Qualifications

Top candidates for this role must have:

  • At least 5 years of experience
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Willingness to travel on average 1-2 x per month to partner sites when travel resumes
  • Experience working in or with schools and/or school systems and/or the orgs that support schools (districts, state agencies, nonprofits, charter management orgs, etc.)

Preferred candidates will:

  • Possess past leadership experience and training that involved coaching, consulting, and/or managing people
  • Hold an advanced degree in a related field
