The Senior Staff Accountant works with financial management to perform monthly accounting functions, maintain financial records, and to implement improvements to department processes.
Using established accounting procedures, this position performs a variety of well-defined accounting duties including preparation of journal entries and preparation and analysis of financial reports along with a number of account reconciliations. In addition, (s)/he may be selected to be the Finance lead on cross-departmental projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for all journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and transactions for assigned accounts.
Responsible for the timely creation and verification of monthly general ledger entries.
Manages MassHealth Accountable Care Organization transactions and reporting.
Works with senior finance staff to review financial documents and perform income and expense analysis.
Maintains records for financial audits and prepares audit schedules.
Reports to the Accounting Manager and collaborates and consults with outside contracted affiliates (i.e., Mass Health, Providers, DOI) and various departments within the organization.
Partners with the Accounting Manager to discuss the financial impact for certain journal entries.
Helps mentor and lead more junior staff.
May lead project teams and supervise the work of others.
Hold self and others accountable to meet commitments.
Ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrated as a guiding principle.
Persist in accomplishing objectives to consistently achieve results despite any obstacles and setbacks that arise.
Build strong relationships and infrastructures that designate Mass General Brigham Health Plan as a people-first organization.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration or related field
5-7 years of experience in accounting and financial analysis.
Master's Degree in accounting preferred.
Healthcare/Insurance experience preferred.
Intermediate excel skills required.
Experience with various financial systems including Workday preferred.
Must be multi-task oriented, organized, able to set priorities, and meet deadlines
