As a Landscape Gardener, you will carry out our Mission of Love by coordinating with the Landscape Supervisors to plan, design and implement annual bulb and small area plantings, work schedules and projects to manage and maintain various areas of the campus. Shares responsibility in observing, reporting and resolving campus landscape needs and hazards. Campus areas include, but are not limited to resident cottages, apartments, administrative buildings, public space and gardens, farm and orchard acreage and woodlands within campus boundaries.

Our Landscape Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the following:

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and performing all landscape and snow removal equipment routine maintenance, repair and best management practices for departmental landscape equipment, necessary to maintain the campus.
  • Responsible for understanding the proper use and handling of landscape maintenance shop repair equipment and materials, to include hydraulic lifts, welding equipment, hazardous materials, and proper disposal methods.
  • Maintains work areas and vehicles in an orderly and clean manner, maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Performs all tasks and operates all equipment in a safe manner as outlined in operating manuals. This includes, but is not limited to, ride on and push mowers, truck and UV snowplows and blowers, skid loaders, tractors, solution sprayers, salt spreaders and trenchers. Handheld equipment includes tillers, edgers, string trimmers, sprayers, and backpack blowers.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, parts replacement, and repair work.
  • Possess the ability to understand and adapt to changes in small engine technology and mechanics for landscape and snow removal equipment, proper equipment usage, and general best management practices.
  • In coordination with Landscape Supervisors, assess, prepare and conduct proper training of landscape staff, in safe usage and proper upkeep of departmental equipment.
  • Provide regular feedback to Landscape Supervisors on work progress, equipment status and recommendations regarding future equipment planning.
  • Assist in and prepare for seasonal change out of equipment between the Landscape Shop and various campus outbuildings.
  • Completes computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) generated work orders and provides clear documentation of work as required. Generates work orders for additional work or tasks identified in the field and completes or submits them as appropriate and maintains an accurate record of time for cost distribution and payroll.

What You Have:

  • A high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, Class A - Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  • Minimum of two-year technical school, or on-the-job mechanic training.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in small, gas & diesel engine maintenance or related technology, to include utility vehicles, skid loader, multi-seasonal blower/mowers, trailers and handheld landscape equipment.
  • Ability to operate all landscape and snow removal equipment.
  • Understanding of current trends, digital components, diagnostic systems and related technology
  • Good written, oral, communication, organizational and computer skills.
