Responsibilities Will Include:

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant Manager manages all Respiratory Therapists on staff, and is responsible for assisting in the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. They will carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Performs related duties as required to meet the Mission, Vision, and Values of Masonic Pathways.

  • Participate in ongoing collaboration and communication, utilizing shared goal setting and decision making with physicians, associate providers, department staff, multidisciplinary team members, patients, and families.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care in the appropriate setting across the continuum of care.
  • Communicates with nurses and physicians about changes in patient’s conditions and results of diagnostic studies.
  • Actively participates in and supports regular multidisciplinary team rounds on ventilator, tracheostomy, and other respiratory and Transitional Care patients.
  • Provides respiratory leadership and representation in team planning related to patient admissions/discharges and team meetings.
  • Provides direction and leadership for the VDCU Programs with emphasis on non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy, and ventilator patients, to include standardization of protocols, equipment, and education.
  • Manages the Transitional Care and Ventilator Department’s staffing schedule to maintain adequate coverage for program needs.
  • Able to perform general respiratory therapy duties in all patient care areas.
  • Oversees and collaborates with staff to provide education in ventilator management, tracheostomy care, suctioning, tracheostomy tube changes, ventilator weaning, and patient care planning.
  • Collaborates with staff in initial training of staff for Transitional Care and Ventilator programs.
  • Collaborates with Nursing Educator in providing ongoing education for newly hired Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, CNAs, Providers, and Respiratory Therapists.
  • Serves as an in-house resource for ventilator patient related issues across the continuum of the organization
  • Expected to be an integral part of multidisciplinary rounds and participate in after-hours call as Transitional and Ventilator patient programs grow.
  • Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition and staff concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program with a bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three years or more of leadership experience preferred.
  • Advanced level accreditation (RRT) through the National Board of Respiratory Care required.
