Maryland Zoo is Hiring a Digital Media Coordinator Near Baltimore, MD

THIS POSITION IS SET TO START ON JULY 1, 2024.

General Summary:

The Digital Media Coordinator assists in scheduling, maintaining, revising, and updating information, images, text and posts on the Zoo’s various digital platforms, including the Zoo’s website. The coordinator will also be involved in assisting with content gathering and posting of information on the Zoo’s social media sites. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Creative Services, and works in support of the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media.

Essential Functions:

Primary Function:

? Make text edits, image updates, and content changes to various pages of the Zoo’s website under the direction of the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media;

? Routinely review website text for accuracy and maintain/update relevant seasonal information throughout site;

? Gather information and images to support website blog posts;

? Post press releases and news to the Zoo’s website;

? Update calendar of special events and daily activities on the Zoo’s website and mobile website;

? Assist with scheduling and posting on the Zoo’s various social media sites as requested by the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media;

? Assist in drafting copy for newsletter email communications for Zoo followers to support Zoo’s marketing initiatives;

? Respond to social media and website inquiries with direction from the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media;

? Maintain and update the Zoo’s online photo library and search for stock imagery as needed;

? Take photos and videos, as directed by the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media, including collection animals, on grounds activities, community events, and public programs;

? Perform other duties as assigned; and,

? Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Zoo.

Communication (Internal and External):

? Facilitate website content requests from various Zoo departmental contacts as directed by the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media;

? Responsible for keeping the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Media updated on project status. ;

? Communicate with Zoo employees via radio contact as needed following Zoo radio etiquette and protocol at all times; and,

? Communicate effectively with guests and staff, when on grounds, to support promotional events and on site content gathering.

Management of Resources (financial, human resources, facilities):

? Not applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

? Bachelor’s degree in marketing, new media, advertising, business, communications, and/or another related field preferred.

Experience/Training:

? Minimum 6 months of related professional experience;

? Two to three years working on media projects preferred

? Valid driver’s license;

? Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred;

? Experience with Wordpress Content Management System or similar website CMS preferred;

? Working knowledge of social media channels and content posting;

? Basic knowledge of photography and video gathering techniques highly desired; and,

? Experience with Adobe Photoshop and other Creative Suite software preferred.

Traits Desirable:

? Must be outgoing, creative and organized;

? Strong communication skills, both oral and written;

? Copy editing experience a plus;

? Ability to work on tasks in a timely manner and adhere to project deadlines;

? Ability to work as a productive member of a team with limited supervision; and,

? Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.

Equipment:

? Must be able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including computer, telephone, radio, golf cart etc.

Working Conditions:

? Must be able to stand and remain active for an eight hour shift;

? Must be able to walk large areas of the Zoo as needed;

? Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, including heat/humidity, cold temperatures, and/or wet conditions;

? Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays, and special events; and,

? Must be able to exert up to 35 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects.
