TITLE: Deputy SYRA (Full-Time/On-Site)

The Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) is a member of the US Soccer Federation as a National State Association and is affiliated with US Youth Soccer. MSYSA serves as the primary advocate for the amateur sport of youth soccer in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. MSYSA is dedicated to offering the highest quality soccer education, player development, and programs while fostering sportsmanship, fitness, diversity, teamwork, and passion for the game.

Established in 1976, the MSYSA proudly serves a membership of over 210 affiliate clubs and leagues typically registering 75 ,000 players and thousands of coaches, administrators, and volunteers. The MSYSA state office is located in Glenwood, Maryland.

Job Description:

Due to the success of our Let’s Play! program we are adding a new Let’s Play! Coordinator to our team.

The Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) Deputy State Youth Referee Administrator (SYRA) supports the SYRA in overseeing all referee needs for all MSYSA administered programs, cups, and events. The Deputy SYRA assigns referees for many matches each year to include a number of MSYSA sanctioned tournaments and leagues. In addition to working collaboratively with certified assignors and other members of the referee community, the Maryland Deputy SYRA coordinates professional development opportunities for participating referees and provides insights and recommendations for how to improve recruitment and retention of referees. The duties within the job description are listed below.

The Deputy State Youth Referee Administrator position is full-time, exempt, and reports directly to the MSYSA Executive Director. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assign the certified referees necessary to fill game assignments for MSYSA sanctioned tournaments and leagues in addition to the MSYSA State Cup, Presidents Cup, and ODP Invitational
  • Work closely with the applicable league or tournament Director regarding game scheduling
  • Recommend professional development opportunities for participating referees
  • Work with Marketing & Communications Manager to promote referee initiatives
  • Make recommendations to the Executive Director for improvements and program needs
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Assist Director of Finance with HR and Payroll related to referee initiatives
  • Assist Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required/ College degree a plus
  • Passion for the game of soccer
  • 5 years of referee experience desired
  • Knowledge of the referee landscape
  • Being a certified assignor and/or a referee coach desired
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and take direction
  • Available to work nights and weekends, as needed
  • Team player
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA and pass annual background check
  • At least 21 years old
  • Must possess strong administrative skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be very proficient with all Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and One Drive)
  • Creativity, problem-solving, organizational, and multi-tasking skills are vital
  • Ability to train, motivate, and monitor team members performance a plus
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills in multiple settings
  • Language Skill(s): English. Spanish is a plus
  • Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • CPR & First Aid certified a plus but training can be provided
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, and have access to reliable transportation daily
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA and pass an annual background check

Special Requirements

New hires must consent to and complete a criminal background check (MSYSA will cover the cost)

New hires must complete the following training courses to meet MSYSA Mandatory compliance and program expectations:

  • SafeSport Trained Core Course
  • Heads Up to Youth Sports: Concussion Awareness
  • US Soccer Introduction to Safe & Healthy Playing Environments
  • Additional virtual training on a case by case basis.
