Nurse Practitioner (NP) Job Description for Maryland Pain Specialists

Clinical Duties : See and evaluate patients in the office for medical management of chronic pain. Initially NP will only see established patients. NP will discuss these patients with their regular physician. During the first month, we expect the NP to become knowledgeable in our office practices, patients, computer system and common issues involved in the treatment of patients with chronic pain. After this initial period the NP will become more independent and see patients independently, but always with the ready availability to discuss the patient with their treating physician if necessary. NP will also answer routine telephone messages that come in during their work day. NP will develop a system of vigorous, validated pain case outcomes data in conjunction with physicians. The NP may also see new consultations as well as established patients.

Synopsis

Medical management of outpatient chronic pain patients

Coordination of interventional pain treatments for our patients

Evaluation of new patients under direct physician supervision

Follow up of patients after interventional therapies

Conduct history and physicals

Evaluate patient data

Obtain appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests

Record patient progress

Guide patient care regarding medical management of chronic pain

Prescribe and monitor medications, including controlled dangerous substances
