Access and verify incident/congestion conditions via closed circuitTV (CCTV) surveillance, Two-way radio communications, Citizen reports, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for incident detection and verification;
Program and operate ITS devices for motorist information systems such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and HighwayAdvisory Radio (HAR);
Communicatewithpolice,maintenance,andvehiclerecoveryunits;
Monitor real-time traffic data to detect roadway congestion/incidents;
Programandoperatemotoristinformationsystems;
Utilize computerized programs such as the Coordinated Highway Action Response Team/Advanced Traffic ManagementSystem(CHARTATMS)andLaneUseControl(LUS)signalstocapturetrafficincidentsandcontroltrafficflow;
Monitor and transmit radio communications;
Programandoperatemediainformationnetwork;
Prepare and monitor various logs and reports pertaining to traffic conditions, incident management, intelligent transportation system devices; and
Answerphonecallsfromincidentreportingnetworkandreportincidentstoteamleader/management.
The ideal candidate will possess:
The ability to communicate clearly and precisely in a "high stress" work environment;
The ability to multitask, to include monitoring multiple computer screens and working in various computer programs, while updating information in real time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None.

Employees shall be required by the appointing authority to undergo training and successfully complete CHART (Coordinated Highways Action Response Team) Operator I Certification to be eligible for permanent status.

2. Employees in this classification are considered emergency and "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
3. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
4. Employees in this classification are considered "Safety Sensitive" employees and are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
