Main Purpose of Job:

The primary purpose of this position is to: (1) conduct the final review of the opinions of the Court for consistency with the Court?s style and identification of possible typographical or citation issues; (2) review filed motions and recommend disposition on those motions to the Court; and (3) conduct legal research and analysis as directed by the Court/Clerk. This position involves frequent, high-level engagement with the Justices of the Supreme Court.

Education: Juris Doctorate and a member in good standing of the Maryland Bar

Experience: Two (2) years legal work experience to include legal research and writing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of Maryland law (rules, statutes, cases) and ability to apply that law to unique situations.

Skill using the ?Blue Book? for review of legal citations and references to cited materials.

Skill using legal research tools (books and online) to find appropriate legal support for conclusions.

Skill in providing concise oral and written presentations of legal issues, analysis, and recommendations.

Ability to carefully review and edit the work of others ensuring compliance with published policies, appropriate citations, and grammar.

Ability to write clearly and concisely for justices, attorneys, and self-represented persons.

Ability to present complex matters both in writing and orally.

Ability to work independently and closely with others, applying and enforcing office policies.

Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, both in writing and orally.
