Purpose of the Role: This position is responsible for specialized entry-level clerical work in the Civil section of the District Court. It requires that all essential duties assigned be performed in an accurate and prompt manner. Upon completion of orientation and initial training, the incumbent will perform specific and measurable tasks under moderate supervision.


Education:
High school diploma or GED.


Experience:
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.

Note:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
  • A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
  • A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Knowledge of alpha and numerical filing system
  • Knowledge of basic legal terminology and able to communicate effectively using such with court personnel and ancillary agencies.
  • Knowledge of standard legal forms and documents used in the Maryland District Courts.
  • Skill in customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer.
  • Skill in accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and manage daily duties according to priority.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and provide information in a polite and efficient manner both in person and on the phone.
  • Ability to maintain and use a detailed filing system
  • Ability to verify scanned documents from other co-workers.
  • Ability to exercise tact and understanding in pressured situations.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to make decisions independently while complying with the MD Rules, as well as the rules and procedures established by the District Court of MD.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and work well with others.
  • Ability to adapt to change and responsibilities.
