Mary Place is Hiring a Food Services Driver - Part Time Near King, WA

Description

We are seeking a responsible and energetic individual with a stellar clean-driving record to support the Food Services and Warehouse Programs by picking up, sorting and delivering food donations and supplies. The Food Services Driver ensures all food is handled and transported and delivered according to the Food Service Guidelines set out by the Food Services Manager.

The Food Services Driver actively engages in Mary’s Place racial equity work – striving for racially equitable outcomes and taking responsibility for creating, maintaining and affirming communities for people of color, immigrants and refugees, trans and gender-non-conforming people, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position including some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Preference for weekend availability and flexibility throughout the week as needed. Shifts may range anytime from 7:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Friday evenings range from 8:00 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. Shifts can range from 4 hours to 8 hours, based on the operational needs. 

Pay starts at $25 per hour/DOE.

This position reports to the Food Services Manager and does not supervise other staff.

Key Responsibilities

Food Safety

  • Responsible to ensure that all staff follow all Mary’s Place food-safety guidelines in handling food and properly loading food into sorting facility
  • Deliver food, dry goods, meals and supplies to shelters and partners

Driving and Deliveries

  • Safely operate cargo vehicles on freeways, residential roads, and in congested inner-city traffic
  • Pick up donations from large corporate donors and donation collection sites
  • Help load and unload physical inventory between vehicles and sites; this may include use of pallet jacks, dollies and other non-mechanical tools (training is provided)
  • Maintain established Mary’s Place standards for loading the truck and managing separation of loads and completing donation paperwork
  • Maintain established Mary’s Place standards for delivering complete shipments and completing deliver paperwork
  • Ability to complete all paperwork as required
  • Log and report any issues/incidents with vehicle(s)
  • Perform basic maintenance and fueling as required
  • Support Operations team with special projects and events
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications Required

  • Experience driving box trucks up to 26’ in length, high-roof cargo vans, passenger vans, and refrigerated box trucks
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude and sense of humor
  • A valid Washington State driver’s license
  • Have or willing to obtain a Food Handlers card
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Proof of personal vehicle insurance
  • An excellent driving record
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency and/or high-stress situations
  • Ability to work independently while following policies and procedures
  • Excellent follow-through on assigned tasks
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be proficient in English (speak, listen, read and write)
  • Ability to work successfully in a collaborative, team-oriented organization
  • Ability to understand and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Exhibits compassion and empathy; works well with men, women and children from all ethnic, social, economic and sexual orientation backgrounds

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively with people in many different settings, to follow instructions, and to talk, listen and hear as well as to communicate via e-mail and text
  • This position requires the ability to frequently push, pull, lift and/or carry supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to use pallet jacks, dollies and other non-mechanical tools (training is provided)
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis; this position may include repetitive motion
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel, type, and reach with hands and arms
  • Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of siting, working on a computer and telephone and other standard office equipment, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required
  • Travel to program sites and meetings outside the office and around the county are necessary
  • Ability to work in an environment where there may be animals present, including dogs
