  • Under general direction and in collaboration with Mobile Intensive Care Services (MICS) director, the Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day emergency preparedness (EP) activities for Mary Greeley Medical Center. The Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity Coordinator will directly support how Mary Greeley Medical Center mitigates against, prepares for, responds to, and recovers from all hazards. This role stays current on applicable state and national standards including the Incident Management System, Hospital Preparedness Program, CMS, and DNV Emergency Management programs. The Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity Coordinator provides leadership, training, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on support to the organization consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan of Mary Greeley Medical Center.
  • Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
    • Plan, coordinate, maintain, and update MGMC’s Emergency Preparedness Program. Ensure the alignment of MGMC Emergency Operations Plan with Community Plans. Review and update annually.
    • Collaborate with MGMC personnel on campus-wide emergency preparedness activities and responses.
    • Collaborate with departmental leaders on the design and implementation of department-specific emergency response plans.
  • Ensures that MGMC Emergency Operation Plans and activities remain in compliant with DNV, CMS, and any other applicable regulations for Emergency Management standards.
  • Ensures continuous compliance to all required standards for Emergency Management.
  • Provide input, recommendations, guidance, and/or direction concerning security and communications-related issues.
  • Manage Business Continuity Plans, ensuring MGMC has access to critical supplies and resources. Develop protocols to ensure appropriate and equitable resource allocation.

  • Manage frequent and consistent disaster planning and preparedness exercises or drills. Capture data to assess the success of exercises/drills and implement response improvements.
  • Manages the process for writing and submitting after-action reports in a timely manner and convenes a multidisciplinary team to review and critique each drill by documenting recommendations and lessons learned. Manages after-action work plans through completion.
  • Serve as liaison to our community in emergency and disaster planning and actual incident responses, including representation at meetings of Story County Public Health and Emergency Management Agency, State EMS and IDPH-related committees, and business and public sector planning groups.
    • Assists in the pursuit and development of disaster-related Memos of Understanding (MOUs).Completes a collaborative Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA) for all appropriate locations.
  • Facilitates training related to Emergency preparedness, including hazmat decontamination, HICS, MRI safety, emerging pathogens and biocontamination, evacuation sled training, and natural disasters.
  • Serves on the Hospital Incident Command Structure.
  • Chairs the monthly Emergency Management Committee to ensure the effective oversight, monitoring, and reporting of EOC and safety standards.
  • Participates as a member in the Hospital Alliance for Preparedness in Iowa (HAPI) group.
  • Coordinates integrated communications plan with Hospital Administration and Marketing and Communications
  • Maintain relationships with related external agencies at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Serve as a resource for key stakeholders.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains organizational communications and security plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates the ongoing process of identifying opportunities to improve security issues and other responsibilities as outlined in the accreditation standards.
  • Provides input, recommendations, guidance, and/or direction concerning security and communications related issues.
    • Manages the physical security functions to include the protection of physical assets and oversight of our Workplace Violence Committee to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, and education):
      • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent amount of education and experience.
      • 3-5 years of experience in emergency management/disaster preparedness or related field
      • Familiarity with Hospital Incident Command System structure and DNV.
      • Project management experience
      • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
      • Requires excellent analytic, consultative, and presentation skills.
      • Effective management skills, including planning, directing, evaluating, and controlling systems
      • Proficient in MS Office and additional computer applications
      • Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training - Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 within the first year of employment
      • Current valid Iowa Chauffeur's license and must maintain eligibility for coverage under Mary Greeley Medical Center’s insurance throughout employment.
      • De-escalation and Combative Person training within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
