Mary Cariola Children's Center is Hiring a RESIDENTIAL LPN - GENERAL MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION Near Town of Perinton, NY

Pay Range: $20.50-$23.50 per hour

  • Remain alert and responsive while on scheduled shift(s).
  • Administers medications to residents in accordance with the Residential Medication policies and procedures.
  • May carry out additional tasks as designated by the Residential Nurse.
  • Is responsible for accurately and consistently completing all required documentation practices.
  • May assist in the personal and physical care needed by each individual as stated in their residential habilitation plan, including tasks such as bathing, toileting, eating and dressing.
  • May assist with performing housekeeping tasks as designated by the shift supervisor/Residence Coordinator including tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning and laundry.
  • Attends bi-monthy meetings as scheduled or requested by the Operations Manager. Attends team meetings at each location, if schedule allows, as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Is responsible for following the Code of Ethics for Direct Support Professionals, as well as, show proficiency in the Core Competencies to ensure person-centered supports for the residents.
  • Implements fire, safety and emergency procedures and assists with fire drills.
  • Implements and follows all required individual programming, Agency and Program-specific policies and procedures accurately, consistently and according to how they are written.
  • Safely drives Agency vehicles. May assist in transportation to and from medical appointments as required.
  • Maintains Agency-Approved Driver status and completes all required ongoing/annual trainings and inservices, as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience and Trainings:

  • Licensed Practical Nursing licensure is required. A minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is desired. Experience in a OPWDD certified residential setting is desired.
  • Must complete and maintain Agency-Approved Driver status, certification in CPR, First Aid, NYS Medication Administration and all other training mandated by OPWDD regulations.
  • Must have the ability and temperament to work effectively with youth and young adults who are developmentally disabled. Must be able to work in a team oriented environment, possess strong organization and communication skills including communicating effectively amongst staff, exhibit patience, handle flexibility in scheduling, etc. Must have the ability to take part in various physical and recreation activities outside the residence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Working Conditions:

Will be working at different locations as scheduled by the Operations Manager. The work environment is primarily in a residential setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to body fluids while bathing, dressing and/or assisting individuals in the bathroom or when they are ill. The environment is climate controlled. The employee is required to participate in travel and transition activities; therefore, exposure to various outside weather conditions exists. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The physical demands of the job will vary from site to site. Staff may need to assist with lifting and transferring of individuals and/or items requiring some lifting and carrying. Mary Cariola Center uses SCIP-r approved physical interventions as part of some individuals behavioral support plans. Staff will need to be able to sit on their knees for up to 20 minutes in both indoor and outdoor settings.
