Mary Cariola Children's Center is Hiring a RESIDENCE MANAGER Near Rush, NY

Salary Range: $58,500-$68,000

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interview and hire, in consultation with the Director of Community Services, all direct care staff and other positions as directed
  • Implement all Agency and Program-specific policies and procedures and recommend appropriate changes or additions to the Director of Community Services
  • Provides administrative and professional supervision of all direct care staff (and other designated staff, on occasion) utilizing the Interactional Supervision Model
    • Interactional Supervision Model- Includes maintaining a supervisory log for each staff member, meeting regularly with each staff member and provideing an annual evaluation for all such staff members outlining their individual professional development goals
  • Ensure direct care staff is provided with required and relevant orientation, in-service and resident-specific training
  • Keep the Director informed of personnel problems within the Agency making recommendations to the Director for progressive discipline/termination of employment of any staff
  • Develop and maintain a weekly schedule of direct care staff in accordance with an appropriate staff-to-resident ratio ensuring 4 weeks of schedules are completed at all times
  • Complete quarterly staffing reports and submit to the Director
  • Monitor scheduled overtime hours and actively seek ways to minimize these hours
  • Conduct, at a minimum, biweekly staff meetings to evaluate and promote effectiveness of the Residential Program, provide staff a venue to discuss programmatic issues, brainstorm and offer ideas, and provide ongoing in-service training to staff
  • Communicate all necessary and important information relative to the residents, staff, building, building contents and community interactions to the Director
  • Responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of the house, including all furnishings and equipment, in conjunction with the Facilities Supervisor and Residence Coordinator
  • Participate in program development, monitoring and review for each resident as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Engage in regular observations of each shift of staff to provide the appropriate oversight and supervision
    • Maintain a log of such observations
  • Work with the residents on their Program Plan and provide them with needed health and physical care
  • Administer medications to the residents in accordance with the Agency's medication policy
  • Accurately and consistently complete all required documentation practices, in a contemporaneous manner, utilizing the PrecisionCare software and in written form, when necessary
  • Complete regular documentation audits in PrecisionCare to ensures that all documentation is complete and accurate
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is forwarded to the business office for billing purposes on a weekly basis
  • Evaluate the self-preservation skills of each individual living in the residence
  • Schedule regular practice fire drills for staff and resident training and to monitor the effectiveness of the residence’s emergency evacuation plan
  • Participate in a variety of meetings with interdisciplinary treatment team members, parents, Agency personnel, etc.
  • Available, by telephone, on an on-call basis to deal with emergencies such as hospitalizations, staff problems, household emergencies, etc. (Some emergencies may require on-site direction of staff)
  • Work in conjunction with various school/day service providers to formulate programming and to resolve issues related to school/day service and/or transportation in conjunction with the QIDP/Care Manager and any other appropriate Agency staff
  • Coordinate meetings, staff and visits that are relevant to Admission/Discharge procedures in conjunction with the Residential Intake Social Worker
  • Coordinate and maintains Agency specific spending within the limits of the operating budget
    • Review and sign all receipts to confirm purchases are appropriate
    • Conduct regular balance checks of house petty cash and the residents' personal allowance petty cash kept at the house
    • Ensure the appropriate documentation is forwarded to the business office for processing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess a current and valid NYS driver's license with an acceptable driving record
    • An acceptable driving record is one with no more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years, no DUI or DWAI conviction in the past 5 years, no DWI conviction in the last 10 years and no more than 1 “at fault” accident in the past 3 years
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
  • Possess the ability and temperament to work effectively with youth and young adults who are developmentally disabled
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment
  • Strong communication skills and patience
  • Handle flexibility in scheduling
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of people

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Human Services from a four-year college or university
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working with people with developmental disabilities
    • A minimum of 2 out of the 3 years completed must have been in an OPWDD certified program
  • Supervisory experience preferred or a combination of education and experience

Certifications and Trainings

  • NYS Medication Administration
  • SCIP-r
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • All other trainings mandated by the Office for people with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
  • Note: all certifications and trainings will be provided by the agency if you do not already possess them

Working Conditions

The work environment is primarily in a residential setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to individuals who engage in aggressive, destructive and attention-seeking behaviors that may involve exposure to body fluids. The environment is climate controlled. The employee is required to participate in travel and transition activities; therefore, exposure to various outside weather conditions exists. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The physical demands of the job will vary from site to site. Staff working in a residential setting may be engaged in very physical activities with the residents; which include, but are not limited to, biking distances of up to 3 miles at a time, hiking/climbing at local parks and trails, swimming, and pushing a wheelchair for periods of up to an hour while on outings. Staff may need to assist with lifting and transferring of individuals and/or items requiring some lifting and carrying. Mary Cariola Center uses SCIP-r approved physical interventions as part of some individuals behavioral support plans. Staff will need to be able to sit on their knees for up to 20 minutes in both indoor and outdoor settings.
