Description

Martin/Martin, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Structural Engineer to join our vibrant and expanding Kansas City office. This dynamic environment offers you the chance to work on an exciting array of projects, including large national sports venues, regional hospitals, medical offices, higher education facilities, and local repair, restoration, and investigative projects.

Our Kansas City office is a strategic new addition to M/M, focused on growing our regional presence and enhancing our participation in marquee national sports projects. As one of the first hires in this new office, you will play a crucial role in developing key clients, shaping office culture, and achieving engineering excellence. This position offers a broad mix of opportunities for your career growth.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Project Management and Design:

  • Design small to medium-sized projects or specific parts of larger projects across various industries, especially in sports.
  • Coordinate and review project elements to ensure accurate information flow between plans, details, notes, and specifications.
  • Create and deliver detailed reports documenting project progress and findings.
  • Mentor Engineer-in-Training team members, providing guidance on design techniques, software, and building codes.
  • Master and effectively apply jurisdictional and material-specific codes.
  • Oversee technical and support staff to ensure project success.
  • Conduct field investigations using specialized equipment as needed.

Client Interaction and Satisfaction:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for sports industry clients and contractors, ensuring their satisfaction and addressing management challenges.
  • Maintain open communication with clients, addressing their needs and concerns promptly.

Budget and Schedule Management:

  • Assist in monitoring design budgets and project schedules.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage work plans, schedules, and design budgets to meet project milestones.
  • Establish project budgets and submit relevant information to the accounting team.
  • Follow project close-out processes to ensure financial accountability.

Structural Specialization:

  • Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) software for modeling, coordination, and detailing.
  • Supervise and review the work of BIM technicians to ensure project quality.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Coordinate with in-house and external project teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Participate in production and technical committees or special projects to advance the company’s goals and contribute to the success of sports industry projects.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering.
  • Registered PE license in the State of Missouri or ability to obtain one within 3 months
  • Four years minimum total structural engineering experience, one of which can be from a Master’s degree.
  • Strong working knowledge of building and material codes.
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, and technical skills.
  • Committed to client service and a team-based approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Experience following engineering projects from the start of design through the completion of construction.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis on Structures.
  • Has passed the 16 hr structural licensing exam.
  • Strong working knowledge of building and material codes.
  • Sports and/or long-span project experience 
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, and technical skills.
  • Committed to client service and a team-based approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Experience following engineering projects from the start of design through the completion of construction.
